Disgust in One’s self #WIPpetWednesday

Hello all! It’s evening here, and I’m writing this post early, but I normally do. I have internet tomorrow, so I should be able to keep up with everyone’s post throughout the day. Yay!

To cut to the chase. I’ve been writing a lot lately. I haven’t quite managed to write every day, but I have at least managed to keep up in my goal of a word count. Mostly because of days like today where I write almost 7k words to make up for not writing the entire weekend. My weeks just seem to be getting busier and busier as they go along.

My goal is still to finished Quarter Life: Unbound by the end of October, and thank God! I’m on track to do that. I’m starting to think about my NaNo Project, which means at least plotting out the first few chapters in my head.

Anyway…onto WIPpet. Here’s my excerpt for the day from Quarter Life: Unbound. Now, I changed my MC’s name. Long story as to why, but it needed to happen. So now Faye=Emma. Same character, new name. This follows the chapter with the Troll from last week. You get 1 paragraph for the first of the month. My math is so easy today.

Here we go…

Mike breathed heavily on her, the air flowing from his mouth over her chest. Faye shifted slightly to a more comfortable position. The smell of his blood dominated her thoughts. She hated drinking from humans. It felt wrong to her, like a violation of trust. Most of them didn’t know she existed, yet she still preyed on them like animals. And they weren’t animals, they were intelligent monsters just like those in her own family line.

Hope you enjoyed! Check out other WIPpeteers here.

#ROW80 update and progress on goals

This has been a crazy hard month for us, started really end of January, and it's looking to continue to be another rough month. My spouse was fired, we're switching kids' daycare because of abuse issues, I've been sick with some cold, stomach bug through the house,...

Open when you get fired… #loveletters #openwhen

Oh love, My heart breaks for you. This isn't what you wanted or what I wanted. And it is completely out of our hands. Let me hold you, love. Let me hold you while you cry, while you curse, while you run worries around your head so much that you don't know where to...

I like the name Faye! Good choice if you had to switch names. I likes 🙂

It’s kind of a cringing truth, saying humans are also intelligent monsters, because we truly can be.

    • Adrian

We can be. And Fays in particular has seen more of it than most

  2. rachelalsowrites

I love the phrase ‘intelligent monsters’! It just fits perfectly here.

    Great excerpt! 😀

    • Adrian

Thanks. It does fit, especially with her past.

        • Adrian

It’ll come out eventually for her but not much of it until the second book methinks. It’s a huge reason to the book as to why she’s hanging out with Molly and her crowd

  3. mbarkersimpson

Oh, I love this scene. It says so much about her conflict – I was hooked 🙂

    • Adrian

Yay!! She has a lot of conflict that’s for sure

  4. Emily Witt

Echoing the love of “intelligent monsters”. A darkly accurate description.

    • Adrian

      Thanks!!!

  5. Amy

I love it. And I adore the name Faye (I like it better than Emma; sorry).

    • Adrian

Haha I do too. Emma just fits the other character south better than this one.

  6. sirenarobinson

I like the name Faye as well. I think it’s a more old-fashioned name, which from what I know about what you’re doing, works. Intelligent monsters is a great line.

    • Adrian

Both Emma and Faye were popular the time she was born. I like Faye better too.

  7. Elaine Jeremiah

Oooh this is intriguing. Is she a vampire? Who is Mike? I want to know!

    • Adrian

She’s sort of a vampire =P but ultimately the answer to that question is yes. Mike is the bar tender…no one in particular just her next feed

      • Elaine Jeremiah

See this to me is something new from you – I didn’t know that you did vampire (ish!) fiction as well! A woman of many talents! 🙂

        • Adrian

This is my first original vampire. I do write urban fantasy though. I rotate between urban fantasy and police procedurals. And you know…the occasional erotica in there too lol I like a variety

          • Elaine Jeremiah

Why not? To coin a well-worn phrase, variety is the spice of life! 😉

          • Adrian

Exactly! Variety keeps it interesting!! I’ve been writing this character for 2+ years though. I’m not sure I could pull her off again

  8. kathils

Intelligent monsters just like those in her own line! I love it.

    • Adrian

      Thanks!!

  9. Xina Marie Uhl

Oh! “Intelligent monsters.” I really like that turn of the phrase. And I love how she smells the blood. Very nice! And you wrote 7k in one day?? WOW! Everyone else is so productive this WIPpet. I wish I could be as productive myself!

    • Adrian

I’m doing pre-nano, so I’m aiming to write 1600 words or so a day. I got behind this past weekend and had to make up for it

      • Xina Marie Uhl

Wow, that’s pretty impressive. I should plan to do something similar. I might be able to do it this year …

        • Adrian

Do nano in November? DO IT!!!

  10. Alana Terry

Ach! Not sure I’d want to keep reading. 😉 Which means well done!

    • Adrian

      =D yay!!!

  11. shanjeniah

Ahhh… a WIPpet I can sink my fangs into!

I like “sorta” vampire better than “real” vampire. And the conflict between what she’s doing and her feelings….love it.

Also joining the chorus who love ‘intelligent monsters!’

    • Adrian

Lol. She’s definitely vampire in nature. I don’t know if I’ll reveal it. The reader won’t know until the end of the book as it’s kinda the whole point of the book but we’ll see. I may let it slip.

  12. Ruth Nestvold

Heh, nice snippet with lots of conflict built in all over the place! Good job!

    • Adrian

      Thanks so much!

  13. ReGi McClain

I love that phrase “intelligent monsters”. It’s perfect.

    • Adrian

=D why thank you! *bows low*
