#ROW80 update and progress on goals

This has been a crazy hard month for us, started really end of January, and it’s looking to continue to be another rough month. My spouse was fired, we’re switching kids’ daycare because of abuse issues, I’ve been sick with some cold, stomach bug through the house, COVID scare…it never ends. That’s legit just the last two weeks haha

So…my goals likely need to change. Here’s the original and what I’ve accomplished. I think I should still be able to get most of it accomplished. I’m on chapter 20 of 29 for Race War in terms of writing. I can’t do anything with Stone’s Mistake until I get edits back (I’m impatient for sure), and I should be able to write the other two by the end of March. Fingers crossed I’m able to start picking up the pace even just a little to meet my goals.

Round 1 Goals

  1. EDIT – Stone’s Mistake (Agent Morgan Stone #1) – Waiting on edits back
  2. EDIT – Young & Old (Missing Persons #3) – halfway done
  3. WRITE – Race War (Agent Morgan Stone #2) – IN PROGRESS
  4. WRITE – Beware (Quarter Life #4)
  5. WRITE – Alone & Lonely (Missing Persons #4)
  6. MARKET – Stone’s Mistake (Agent Morgan Stone #1) – IN PROGRESS
  7. MARKET – Release (Quarter Life #3)

COMPLETED GOALS

  1. WRITE – Country Style
  2. EDIT – Love Burns
  3. EDIT – Lawyer Piece

ROW80 Update #ROW80

Good morning!

I’ve been working hard (kind of). I’ve actually been resting a lot too. I had surgery last week, and recovery has been slow. Here’s my mid-week update on what I’ve been doing.

For marketing, I’m learning about Amazon Ads, I’m looking at blog tours and a release event for De-Termination which is coming up QUICK! I got my pre-order links today.

I participated in a podcast of sorts! Chanel Ivy has a podcast where she reads the sexy parts of books, so I sent her over an excerpt from De-Termination for the month of October, a spooky scene with Faye & Molly pushing each other’s buttons and trying to entice the other to their own ways.

If you want to take a listen, go here! It was an interesting and fun experience.

I have been writing…slowly…Sun, Sea, and Gwyn. I’m almost done with chapter 3 as of this morning. I don’t know why this piece is so slow going compared to my normal writing, but it is. I’ve also been distracted with edits and market, so that might be why.

I started editing Broken & Wear (Missing Persons 2) yesterday. I’m 3 chapters in out of 21. Onward and forward.

Oh! Oh! I did get the first round of covers for Stone’s Mistake (Agent Morgan Stone 1) and I’m in love! Can’t wait to share it when I get the final version.

See you all Sunday!

Break time is OVER! #amwriting #update

Hey all!

I know! It’s been forever! These past few months I’ve been in and out of the house, gone for weeks at a time. It’s been hard to keep up with stuff. That and not feeling well (more about that later in a separate post) doesn’t make productivity high. So, since I’ve been gone, I haven’t been doing much.

But now I’m back. Life should be calming down, and I’m off to get a head start of everything I want to be releasing in 2016. In case you’re curious…

Editing for 2015/2016 left to do

TBR 12/1/15 — Grace through Redemption (Spirit of Grace #3) — edits with publisher, so only a few more rounds to go!
TBR 6/1/16 — Lost & Forsaken: Missing Persons #1 (A Detective Grace Novel) — in with the beta readers!
TBR 2016 — Deathscape — edits with publisher

Deathscape is a short story that I submitted to Less Than Three Press. It was accepted, so now I’m just waiting on edits and cover and scheduling and all that good stuff. I’ll keep you all updated as I know.

Writing for 2015/2016

Glacial Freeze — this is a paranormal romance novella based in Glacier National Park. It’ll be awesome once I get it written. I have started writing it!
De-Termination (Quarter Life #2) — more adventures of Faye the crazy ass vampire. This is due out Oct 2016
Untitled: Missing Persons #2 (A Detective Grace Novel) — gotta write more Grace because who doesn’t love Grace!
Bronzed Mask — scifi, steampunky, post-apoc awesome story!

Life’s updates are insane, but I miss you all, I miss writing, and I’m getting back on the wagon. =P

trying to keep up #ROW80

Well…I’m back!!! I’ve got a lot going on in general, but it always seems to pile up. This week the SO was home for 4 days straight, which seriously cramped my style in writing a bit. Yesterday I drove about an hour to meet another awesome writer whom I’ve connected with online, and it felt so good to be in that world again. Kansas is very isolating sometimes, and I miss all my writer buddies in Texas for sure.

However, I am still making good writing progress. I was talking to a friend online the other day and we were chatting about writing and writing and characters and writing. I mentioned I never had the intention of being a full-time writer. At least not until I retire from my amazing day job. Said friend told me I write a lot for someone not intending to be a full-time writer. I’d have to agree, but why not make good practices of it now? Why not build the audience now while I have time and don’t have worry about it? Why not hone my skill and craft now while I’m not dependent on the income?

All makes sense to me at least. Not that said friend disagreed at all. I think I’m just a conundrum. Which is normal for people to finally recognize that about me. I’m also someone who likes to keep busy.

Anyway! What you’re all here for is a ROW80 update post from me, not some rambling. But my goals were limited this week due to the SO being home more often than anticipated and due to my lack of sleep. It happens.

1. Write 3k words a day on Lost & Forsaken

Wednesday: 1659
Thursday: 4316
Friday: 2382
Saturday: 4083

I’m still on track according to my schedule, but that’s because I’ve been averaging 4k words on days when I write a lot. I’m actually about 1 day ahead of where I should be. The entire novel is at 36,000 words in 9 full days of writing time, so I’m pretty darn proud of that. I’m also working on revealing the secret of what this novel is on the 30th to my FB groupies because I hate keeping secrets like this when I don’t have to.

2. Edit 2 chapters a day on Her Run for Rachael

3. Edit 2 chapters a day on shorts for Kaden

I haven’t worked on this at all yet. Since I wanted to finish this before May (I have another edit coming in May that hit my email this morning), I need to get going. I anticipate about 8 more hours of work on it.

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound: Book One of Quarter Life which is my own thing that’s supposed to be coming out in Oct.

I got behind in this. I’m supposed to be editing chapter 15 today or tomorrow, I think, and I’m still on chapter 10. A few hours to catch up won’t take long, I just have to find the time to do it.

These were my goals through the month of April, so as soon as May hits, some of these goals are going to change a bit. Some added, some deleted. Right now, I’m looking at

1. Write 3k a day on Lost & Forsaken until it is complete.

2. Write a few short stories (2 a week) when Lost & Forsaken is complete OR dive straight into a new novel.

3. Edit 1 chapter a day for Jasmine.

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound.

5. Get back on track with Open When blog posts.

#ROW80 update — Almost done!

Hello all! My in laws are in town this weekend, so I’m going to make it quick. I have been writing! If I stick with my plan, I’ll finish this piece on Feb 8th or around then, which is just before I leave for a whole week to go to a conference.

So here’s my update

Here’s my ROW80 update.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Wednesday – 2102
    • Thursday – 2371
    • Friday – 2836
    • Saturday – 6096
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • Did this last week, have two extra posts for this coming week. I think it’s all set.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Not done

As for the writing front. I’m very close to finishing this novel. 3 chapters and an epilogue. So if I write 3k words a day, or average that, I can finish by Feb 7th. I have myself one extra day for a just in case day. I leave on the 9th for Texas for a week, so yeah, would really love to get it done before I spend a busy week down there.

Just another update #ROW80

I haven’t had the greatest weekend. It was the first time in a while that I woke up yesterday, stared at my computer and actually decided not to write. I just couldn’t find the head space to do it. There has been loads of drama and conflict going on at work since Friday morning, and it’s not been fun. Friday and Saturday are my weekend, so much for that. Anyway…my writing is slacking a bit.

In other news, I realized that if I write 3,000 words a day I should finish this novel in the first few days of February. It would be awesome if I did that, seeing as how the second week in February I’ll be gone at a conference for work stuff. This novel I’m writing wasn’t supposed to be released until June 1, 2016, but I have a feeling it might be released before then.

I’m already sending chapters to beta readers. They’re on Chapter 2 at the moment, I’m writing chapter 10 (there’s 15 total without the prologue and epilogue, and I’m still not sold on having an epilogue). This year, for 2015, I decided to keep track of all the words I write for the entire year. I’m just 2k words shy of writing 50k words this year already. If I keep that up every month, damn I’ll write a lot of works. I doubt I’ll keep it up every month because there needs to be time for revisions and editing, but still, I think it’s pretty awesome.

Last week I was sort of stuck on Grace through Redemption. I’d hit my 30k word slosh fest. But I am proud to report that I’m now over 50k words in it. Meaning, the novel is over halfway written and I’m out of the slosh fest. This next chapter will be fun to write. It’s all about Santa.

Anyway, onto the update.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Wednesday — 2297
    • Thursday — 2843
    • Friday — 3328
    • Saturday — 0
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • I did every since post this week, including one extra Open When. This means I’m all caught up on my Open When posts from when I slacked in November (now I just have to type them out on my typewriter). My extra post this coming week will be another writing taboos posts. It should go live tomorrow.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Haven’t touched this goal yet. My computer keeps randomly crashing, so I’m nervous about doing anything of this magnitude on it. I don’t want to do it and then lose it.

Time and time again #ROW80

I finally got days off. Friday was my first day off since January 3rd, and I took it and ran with it. It felt soon good. Now I’m sitting here on Sunday morning kind of wishing I had just one more day off to finish resting up before head off to work, but alas, it’s Sunday, it’s God’s day and church must happen.

I got two calls last night, both of which took far longer than normal. I ended up talking to my mother for the better part of three hours. Then a friend from graduate school called. I haven’t talked to him since I got married. We spent over half an hour catching up. It was great! I definitely need to do this more often. It kind of felt like I had actual friends.

Other than that, I’ve been writing up a storm. I hit 30k in Grace through Redemption, which is usually my slowing point. I don’t know why, but for some reason in almost every novel, I hit 30k works and then next ten thousand are a huge struggle. It’s only not happened twice. So I’m pushing through it.

Here’s my update for today.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Wednesday – 3797
    • Thursday – 2631
    • Friday – 3775
    • Saturday – 4470
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • I got all posts done except Open When yesterday…but I had two of them this week since I’m still catching up from November, so it’s not that big of a deal. I’ll just posted a second on in this coming week on Tuesday.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • I’ve not done the recording. But my speakers in my computer are miraculously working again…I don’t trust it.

A quick update on a busy weekend #ROW80

Hey all!

My weekend went from semi-busy to crazy busy in the span of about 4 hours. Friday I was supposed to have a half day off, usually it’s a full day off, but I ended up driving four hours to Wichita and 4 hours home. Saturday I had a funeral, and today I have a very full day. So…that means my writing has been lacking.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Wednesday – 2024
    • Thursday – 3612
    • Friday – 3078
    • Saturday – 0
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • This one gets fun. I did this all this week. Since today starts a new week blog wise…it’s going to be crazy. I have a post for every day this coming week.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Didn’t do this yet.

That’s my quick update for today. I’ll hopefully have a more extensive one on Wednesday. I plan on taking some afternoons off this week to make up for my lack of time off this past week. Here’s to hoping I get the chance to do that.

It’s that time of year #ROW80

It’s that time of year when things all get smashed together in a short period of time. Happy things and sad things. Death and dying are oh so prominent throughout the holiday season. I just got off the phone with the funeral director of the funeral home in this tiny little town (he runs about 5 funeral homes I think), and he said he’s so busy this week that he can’t go to every funeral.

You might be wondering why I was on the phone with the funeral director…someone died. That’s really the only reason he would have to call me. Someone died and I get to meet with the family and work on the funeral. Someone died because that’s what people do. They live and they die, and a lot of times it happens right around the holiday season.

I can’t tell you if it’s just because people get to see all their friends and family one last time and they finally feel as though they can let go, or if it’s depression that pushes them toward suicide (that number largely goes up just after the holiday season), or if it’s simply just a mutual end of time and start for new beginnings. But it happens, and I’m sure almost every funeral director can attest to it.

Anyway, I did go off on a bit of a ramble there. My week will be filled with Christmasy things with family and planning for a funeral on the 27th. Here’s my ROW80 update.

1. Write 1667 words a day.

This isn’t happening, but I did write a little bit yesterday!

2. keep up with all blog posts ROW80, WIPpet, Open When and add in 1 extra post a week

This happened this week! My extra post was a cover reveal and I did get Open When up and ready. I have Open When scheduled 2-3 days a week until I can catch up with them all.

3. Edit at least one chapter a week on something.

This happened. I edited one chapter of Unbound, finished a copy-edit so I’m finally copy-edit free!! Meaning, I also to a slight break from editing but will jump back into it real soon. I have 3 books out next year, so I need to get on that.

4. crochet one round of border a week

I crocheted two rounds this week, and I finished the afghan. Pictures to come probably on Wednesday check-in, since it’s been off and mailed and hopefully said person will receive it by then!

Have a great holiday season! And remember, tell your loved ones how much you love them. Life is short, and it always ends.

Counting down the days #ROW80

Well, I’m certainly counting down the days! To so many things. I’ve received kind of a scheduling of releases for 2015, and I have to say, I’m going to be one busy chicklet. But I’m crazy excited about it, too. Every year I have a goal of publishing 2-3 novels, and I’m certainly hitting that goal and more next year.

Here’s just a quick list of what I know for sure is happening…

Feb 2015 – Love is a Mess anthology w/my short Quarter Life: Energy Feed releases
May 2015 – Memoir in the Making releases
June 2015 – Fallen from Grace releases
Oct 2015 – Quarter Life: Unbound releases

There are potentially 3 more anthologies and a novel to be released in 2015 right now too, so yes, crazy, I know.

Other than that, my biggest struggle right now is time and finding time to do everything and be everything I need to be in my life. It’s a countdown in days. One to the new year, one to the end of ROW80, one to Christmas, one to my mother’s arrival, an one to my lovely significant other getting home from work. A countdown with deadlines and so much work to do.

Anyway…to my update!

1. Write 1667 words a day

somewhat keeping up with this. Wrote a bit on my co-written piece, a bit on Grace, and a about 5k words on a short story for submission. So I am writing, just not sure how much each day, but writing is the point.

2. keep up with all blog posts ROW80, WIPpet, Open When and add in 1 extra post a week

Did this for the most part. Missed Open When again. I really need to start that up next week.

3. Edit at least one chapter a week on something.

Definitely did this many times over to the point where I’m not counting.

4. crochet one round of border a week

I DID THIS! I crocheted 3 this week. That means I have 2 left and the project is done. w00t!

The game of life #ROW80 update

Ahhh. It’s Sunday morning, and I’m finally doing my Sunday ROW80 update post, for the first time in two weeks! Life got in the way, but that’s the game of it I think. I’m getting back on track slowly, but it’s still all a work in progress. Which, I do believe, is yet another point of life.

I announced on Wednesday that I have a story releasing on 12/15, and I’m gearing up for that. It’s a co-written short story, which makes it very interesting to say the least. We’re both working to promote it, but at the same time, it’s a short story, so not as much as if it were a novel. We are also co-writing a novel, and that seems to be going very well.

We have a release blitz for Loneliness Ebbs Deep, the short story, if anyone wants to join in!

As for the rest of life, things are going. After much thought, I’ve decided I need to focus on editing right now instead of writing. I’m still writing, but not on my own work. My original plan was to finish Grace through Redemption before the new year, but I got a bit behind in editing. I don’t want to end up even more behind than I already am, so that’s my focus. I think it’s reasonable.

As for the novel I’m co-writing…we have added words this week. Not much as my partner was in the midst of final edits and I’m in the midst of many editing projects. But words were written! Here we go for the rest of the check in.

1. Write 1667 words a day.

We’re at 27382 in word count and going. My guess is we’ll get back on track and do a lot of writing this coming week.

2. keep up with all blog posts ROW80, WIPpet, Open When and add in 1 extra post a week

I’m doing much better at this. I did ROW80 twice this week, WIPpet, and I had 2 extra posts. I did not, however, doing Open When. I’ll need to write a months worth of them to make up for being behind.

3. Edit at least one chapter a week on something.

I’m going to list these out to make it easier.

Ella’s Love: 0 chapters edited and 23 chapters to go
Spellbound: 0 chapters edited and 11 chapters to go
Unbound:
Round 1: 12 chapters done 13 chapters to go
Round 2: 5 chapters done 22 chapters to go
PTB: 1 chapter done

4. crochet one round of border a week

I have not done this, but it still does need to get done.

Failures and Successes #WIPpetWednesday & #ROW80

Well here I am on another Wednesday, and this one is filled with failures and with successes. Most of that will come out in my ROW80 post, so I guess I’ll do it first.

Basically, what happened, was I took too much on at once and something had to give. I was trying to keep up at it all and failing miserably at doing that. So I gave on writing. It’s something I can afford to give on right now, so that’s what did it. I’ve had 3 copy edits this whole month. Luckily I finished the first half of one, but that left the other two still in progress. Likewise, it’s NaNoWriMo … and I got copy-edits back on my own novel. So all in all…here’s a list of projects I’ve been somewhat working on this entire month.

Writing Memoir in the Making
Editing Memoir in the Making
Writing Grace through Redemption
Editing my novel Fallen from Grace
Editing Mara White’s book The Delivery
Editing Jasmine Lee’s book Ella’s Love
Editing S. K. Hart’s book Spellbound

That’s on top of my regular job…which has been pretty unbusy these past couple of weeks. *knock on wood*

Since I didn’t post my update on Sunday…you’ll get a full week’s update in this one singular awesome update.

1. Write 1667 words a day.

Wed: 2084
Thurs: 1974
Fri: 0
Sat: 0
Sun: 0
Mon: 0
Tues: 0

2. keep up with all blog posts ROW80, WIPpet, Open When and add in 1 extra post a week

I have not kept up with any posts this past week. In fact…I wasn’t even able to make up the post from the week before. The only post I’ve done thus far this week, is this one. *sigh* I’ll have to fix that, but I’m thinking next week.

3. Edit at least one chapter a week on something. Will start with Unbound and a copy-edit I have due this month.

HERE! The one place progress has been made!

Editing Memoir in the Making — finished all 25 chapters first round on this and 2 chapters 2nd round. Goal is to get this to the publisher by Dec 1st for a late spring release…
Editing Jasmine Lee’s book Ella’s Love — Finally making good progress on this. I hit halfway on page count and up to chapter 10 (there’s 23 chapters). I hope to have this done and finished by Thursday
Editing S. K. Hart’s book Spellbound — Finished chapters 8-10 yesterday and sent this section back to the author

4. crochet one round of border a week

Still not done. Maybe tomorrow when there’s no work!

As you can see…not a lot of progress but loads of progress in one area. As I said on Facebook today, something had to give. It was writing because it was the easiest one to give up on for a bit. It was unnecessary. Editing is part of my paid work, so it needed to happen. I’m hoping to go back into editing today or tomorrow depending on how much editing I get done on Ella’s Love. If I hit my 5 chapter minimum a day before three, I’ll definitely try to spend some time writing tonight. If not–I’ll focus on editing.

I may not have been writing much this past week, but I have been doing writing work. And that’s just as important.

Now…onto WIPpet Wednesday.

This is where it gets interesting. What to draw on, since I haven’t written and have spent countless hours in editing my own work. I’ve decided…. =P

You’ll be getting an excerpt from Grace through Redemption today. This is from the first chapter, Of Thieves and Visionaries. Grace is stuck dragging around this medium because the detectives she was with got way too annoyed with her. They stuck this medium, Jules, with Grace for the day, and Grace is beyond unhappy about it. Especially with the way certain conversations go.

Today you get 11 sentences from the first chapter of Grace through Redemption. WIPpet Wednesday is open to all who are interested. If you want to join in, create a blog post with a snippet from your WIP (Work in Progress). The only rule is that your snippet must be related to the date somehow, and feel free to get creative with the math! Here we go…context, Grace stuck in a cruiser with someone she really doesn’t want to be stuck with.

“I like you, Grace.”

Groaning, Grace ignored her.

“We should go on a date sometime,” Jules said, her eyes wide when Grace looked back over at her.

“I think not,” Grace answered sharply. “I’m not into dating.”

“Not into dating in general or not into dating people like me?”

“Well, now that you ask,” Grace said. “I’m already dating someone. So unavailable.”

Jules hummed and closed her eyes. “Not dating for long.”

What does that even mean? Not dating for long? This is a medium, a psychic, a person who predicts things…hmmmm….

If you want to join in, create your post and check out all the other lovely posts here.

A day of rest #ROW80

On Monday I finished NaNoWriMo. On Wednesday I finished the novel. *sigh* I wrote that whole book in 14 days, which is something I have done before but I haven’t done it in a long time. I usually prefer to let it drag out a bit more. For some reason, the novel just wanted to be written, and written as fast as I could go. I probably could have gone faster had I not had a job to work at too.

But I finished a novel in 14 days. Talk about crazy. I started the novel itself a few days before NaNoWriMo but didn’t count any of the words before for NaNo. I’m still even shocked that I wrote a romance novel. I love to read them, but I’ve never been all that interested in writing them. They’ve always moved too slowly for me, but for some reason, this one just sprung from my fingers.

What this means is that I have two novels completed, one in October and on in November, and now I need to edit them both. And that’s where everything is slowing down. One has been stuck in editing, meaning nothing has been sent to beta’s in about 3 weeks now, and it’s frustrating me beyond all else. The second one hasn’t even begun the process yes, but… I don’t want to overwhelm my beta readers. So I’m feeling stuck and overwhelmed with editing.

Not to mention I have 3 copy-edits this month…so editing has become my life and writing has gone to the wayside. I enjoy copy-editing, but I enjoy writing even more. I certainly enjoy editing other people’s pieces far more than editing my own. There’s just more a thrill about it.

I’ve decided, since my fingers wouldn’t leave me along for 14 days, that I’ll be taking a break from writing until tomorrow. So my word counts for this half of the week are nil. But here we go…

1. Write 1667 words a day.

Wednesday: 7767
Thursday: 0
Friday: 0
Saturday: 0

2. keep up with all blog posts ROW80, WIPpet, Open When and add in 1 extra post a week

No extra post this week, and I forgot the Open When post for yesterday, so I guess I’ll do it tomorrow. =P

3. Edit at least one chapter a week on something.

Definitely did this. I did about 200 pages on a copy-edit for Mara White. I did a chapter on the copy-edit for S. K. Hart. I did about 4 chapters of my own with the final run through on those. I just got a new copy-edit in my email on Friday, so I went through the prologue of it last night before bed.

4. crochet one round of border a week

Haven’t done this at all. But I thought about doing it, and I told myself I had to do it, so that’s progress!

The real thing… #ROW80

Good morning all! It’s early, and it’s Sunday, and it’s daylight savings over here in the US and oh my is it earlier than I wanted it to be. I have some great news! I started writing a new novel last week based on something I would never ever write or really want to write, and it’s going swimmingly well. That means I changed what my NaNoWriMo novel is. I was going to write the third and hopefully final in my cop series, but it just wasn’t happening and I just wasn’t feeling it. I’m definitely feeling this novel I’m writing now.

If anyone is interested, or involved with NaNoWriMo and needs some good writing motivation, I run a virtual write-ins group on Facebook. Basically we have sprints going almost around the clock because we have people around the world. Some are late night writers, some are early morning writers, some are middle of the day writers. The goal is for sprinting to add to word count and for motivation/encouragement.

The link is right here if anyone wants to join up. I’ll add you to the group.

Now…for ROW80, the real thing… since I’m actually working on something now my word counts are a lot better. But I know for a fact I won’t be writing today because I have a 12 hour word day ahead of me. Blah. So I doubled up on my goal yesterday to make up for today.

1. Write 1667 words a day.

Wednesday: 980
Thursday: 5146
Friday: 3049
Saturday: 6613

If I keep this up…I could finish the novel in a week and a half! Which isn’t the goal, but it’s nice to think about.

2. keep up with all blog posts ROW80, WIPpet, Open When and add in 1 extra post a week

I managed all posts except Open When, which I totally spaced out on doing yesterday because of NaNo and work stuff and house stuff. Anyway, I’ll write it up and post it tomorrow.

3. Edit at least one chapter a week on something.

Did 4 chapters of a copy-edit I have. I’m going by pages instead of chapter numbers on this one. so 50 pages yesterday (it’s not THAT many, the font is at 16 and everything is double spaced). Goal is 50 pages a day (Sunday excluded) until I finish this half of it. I have 3 copy-edits this month and NaNo…I might be insane.

4. crochet one round of border a week

I did not do this, yet again. Someone please kick my ass so I’ll get it done this week. I really need to send this gift off.

Sunday Morning! #ROW80

Good morning all! I wanted to get this done before I went to church this morning and lost half my day away. I was gone over this weekend at a church assembly, which was awesome, but it also means I didn’t write on Saturday. Here’s to hoping I can make up some of the word count today and tomorrow.

I might have been a little overzealous. I decided to tackle a new project between now and NaNoWriMo. It is somewhat related to NaNo, but not entirely. I want to write a companion novella with short stories to the first novel in my police procedural series. Meaning, there’s going to another 40k words added to the “book” from the secondary character’s point of view that is far more on the romantic side. The book itself is not romantic at all, and it wasn’t intended to be. However, a lot of reviewers aren’t happy with that and knocking off stars because of the “lack of romance” in the book.

It puts me in an odd place. I never intended for there to be romance in it. It’s not a romance novel at all, and it was never intended to be a major subplot but just have a touch of it in there. So to constantly be knocked down for something I intentionally didn’t add in because people “think” a novel needs romance when it contains the word “lesbian” in the description really bothers me. Books are books. Whether genre fiction or romance, and frankly, LGBT et al novels are not synonymous with romance. We deserve books about gay heroes and heroines and whatever the gender neutral of that would be who don’t have a romance going on the side. Not everyone is in a relationship and not everyone is in a relationship that takes two minutes to fall completely madly in love and then has the other person become their life. No…that’s not how life works.

Anyway…rant over. I’m writing 40k words before NaNoWriMo, which means that I have to write around 5k words a day, and since I missed yesterday, that means 7.5k today and tomorrow. Oh lordy. AND I want to publish this thing on Amazon by mid-December, which is an also insane goal, I’m aware.

Here’s the update.

1. Write 1667 words a day.

Wed: 725
Thurs: 4955
Fri: 5214
Sat: 0

2. keep up with all blog posts ROW80, WIPpet, Open When and add in 1 extra post a week

So did this! Yay! My extra post this week was “how it all started” concerning how I started writing and why I continued to write. I also wrote the 3 blog posts to be posted in November for my publisher.

3. Edit at least one chapter a week on something.

I self-edited the first story in this new thing I’m doing. I have a slew of edits to do today though, so I’ll finish this goal quickly for the coming week. =P

4. crochet one round of border a week

I did not crochet one round of border. I did, however, crochet two scarves while at assembly. I always bring something to do with my hands when there. It helps me listen better.

Beaten, bruised and run over…what else? #WIPpet &#ROW80

Hi there!!

We’re in a new round of ROW80, meaning I have new goals that I will hopefully accomplish during this round.

Goal 1: Write 1667 words a day and pretend it’s really NaNo.

Monday — 4729 words
Tuesday — 2308

Goal 2: Actually update on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Ummm…this post!

Goal 3: Edit one chapter a week on something.

Edited Chapter 1 of Unbound to send to second round betas.

so YAY!! onto WIPpet…

Here’s my math for the week. 10 + [(2+7) x 0] + 14 = 24. I did get all complicated because I wanted to use every number. So here’s 24 sentences from chapter 22 in Unbound. I’m nearing the end of the novel! w00t! There’s 29 chapters planned out, so here’s to hoping I stick to what I have of an outline. Remember, Emma = Faye, that name change happened. Oh and Caroline = Faye because she likes to have secret identities. Slight context here, Faye went after Kirill, this mob boss dude, for being an ass lol and so she can prove a point. That’ll all be revealed later, with the whole of the novel is my guess. Kirill beat the crap out of Faye and decided to leave Molly a present on her doorstep. Molly just figured out Caroline (in her head, Faye in reality) is not at the house.

Molly straightened up and reached for her radio.

“Amelia, get together three packs. Caroline went after Kirill.”

“What?”

“Just do it!” she spat into the radio before charging for her rooms.

Joel followed closely behind, still wiping the sleep from his eyes. He stopped just as she got to her room and asked, “How do you know?”

“I just do. It’s what I would have done. Go get ready. I’ll need you with me.”

Molly was waiting for them at the garage door for three minutes before she saw them both round the corner. If she didn’t know better, she would think they were dragging their feet. Sighing, she got into the van and started the engine.

Amelia opened the back and shoved three bags into it. Joel got into the front seat and turned his own radio on and checked his weapon before sliding it into his holster. They said nothing as Molly backed out of the garage and hit the remote to shut it after her. She turned around in the carport and drove straight for the gate. They opened seamlessly.

She gunned the engine once they were against the edges of the drive. Molly couldn’t stop when she saw it, when the blob on the dark surface of the sidewalk came into view. She tried to slam on her brakes, but she couldn’t make the van stop in time. She hit Caroline, driving over her with front wheels and back before she screeched the van to a stop.

“Shit!”

And that is where the chapter ends. =P If you’d like to join in with everyone else, here’s the linky to post yours. If not, use it and go read a bunch of other peoples posts. They’re all pretty awesome!

A New WIPpet! #WIPpetWednesday and #ROW80 update

Well…I finished my novel! Yay! So that means I’m editing it, so still technically a WIP, but I’m going to start posting from Emma again. I finally have a title for it, not sure if I ever shared that. This novel has about 34,000 words written and I think it’ll end up being around 90,000 for the whole novel. It’s a third done and my goal is to finish it BEFORE NaNoWriMo. I want to write Grace through Redemption for NaNo. But I’m getting married in a few weeks, so I’m not quite sure how that’s going to work out.

Anyway, I’m going to do ROW80 update first.

1. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written by Aug 31st. 2k words a week.

2. Post-Apocalyptic/Zombie short story needs to be written by Sept 27th. 2k words a week.

3. Editing Fallen from Grace. 3 chapters a week.

I haven’t done anything except the third goal. I did finish my three chapters this week. I’m thinking I need to up it so I can finish editing before I get married. I think I’ll keep this as the goal and try to do extra! =P

For WIPpet.

I do not in anyway remember what I posted from this previously. So here’s a snippet from chapter 13, which is the last completely written chapter. 6 short paragraphs after some shit went down =P Molly and Emma are talking it out. (Yes, I’m aware Emma is called Caroline. I think that’ll be confusing until people read the whole novel. She’s lying about her identity, so when from Molly’s POV, Emma is referred to as Caroline.) My math is easy this week 20 (for the day) – (14 for the year) = 6.

The title of the series is Quarter Life, and the title of this book is Unbound. =D

Molly waited patiently until Caroline was calmed down enough to start talking again. Amachon was still nowhere to be seen, and she knew he would not return until she was done or until Joel woke up. Sliding a stool over so that she could sit, Molly waited a few more seconds before asking Caroline to continue.

“After that?” Caroline said. “I don’t really remember exactly. Chloroform—I remember the smell. Then I kind of woke up a little bit and realized we’d been drugged. Everything was so slow. And dark.”

“What happened?”

“Kirill.”

Molly remained silent as did Caroline. There was little need for an explanation as to why. Molly had essentially stolen for Kirill in his mind and thus he would steal from her. That was explanation enough for him. If she hadn’t done it, hadn’t allowed Jelena and her sons into her home and offered to hide them, Caroline would not have been put in danger.

It was one thing for Joel to be put in danger; he was her employee and knew the circumstances surrounding her work. Caroline was there by default of being too close to the situation in general. None of this should have happened to Caroline, and it was entirely Molly’s fault.

Waiting on the times… a #ROW80 update

It’s been a very busy week and very busy weekend for me. I work Sunday mornings, so my weekends are Friday and Saturday. Friday we launched a new LGBT et al blog I’m a part of as admin. We had an all day event going on from giveaways galore to takeovers galore on our Facebook page. It went fantastically but was utterly exhausting for me. If you want to check out the blog, here’s the link to the blog itself and to our Facebook page.

In the middle of that event, about 9am, I got a call someone had passed away. So I raced over to meet with the family for about an hour. And then later that evening, during my own personal takeover, I raced to the funeral home to discuss funeral arrangements with the family. By 9pm, my brain was fried. I made it through the launch event though. I can’t wait for our one year event. I’ll have to plan it to be even bigger than this one!

But that’s the reason I didn’t get a lot done on my goals. I had planned to edit at least during the off times when I was just waiting around, but my mind was racing with what was going on. I couldn’t concentrate on anything.

Yesterday, the same thing happened. I got up, I was getting ready to work, people came over to work on my house (it’s in the middle of a remodel), and I get a call that someone has died. Someone else. So I tried to meet with the family, but never got a hold of them. So I painted my house all day instead (we got all the rooms done except one and the none of the trim). I called the family again later that night and still didn’t get a hold of them. So I prepped for my Sunday morning work–which I hadn’t done at all yet–and I prepped for the funeral of the first person on Monday.

Needless to say, I feel like I’ve been running around with my head cut off. I had no weekend whatsoever. Hopefully I’ll get an actual weekend next week. Friday couldn’t get here soon enough!

here are my new revised goals

1. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written by Aug 31st. 2k words a week. — still debating on what to do for this, and yes, I realize my time is running out. If I use the short story and it gets accepted, I can’t turn it into a novel like I want to. So… to create a whole new 10k word story or add 4k words to a story already written?

2. Post-Apocalyptic/Zombie short story needs to be written by Sept 27th. 2k words a week. — I was supposed to participate in a writing group yesterday in order to work on this, but that didn’t happen because of the above. Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday I’ll get some written on this.

3. Editing Fallen from Grace. 3 chapters a week.– I’ve edited most of the way through chapter 2. There are two paragraphs left to go. I’ll probably accomplish this Tuesday.

toodles! I’m off to my Sunday morning job!

An update and a hope! #ROW80

Hello all! Here I am on a Sunday morning typing up a post. Usually I do these on Saturday because my Sunday mornings are insane (preacher and all). Anyway, here’s my quick and handy update.

1. Fallen from Grace: write 1 chapter a week (moving week excluded) — I wrote chapter 14 this week, and my beta readers are caught up to me. That means I have to write chapter 15 today or tomorrow, and that, my friends, is the very last chapter in this novel! Squeee!!!!!!
2. Promo: Answer three interview questions a day until done
3. Promo: Write out a guest post a week until done
4. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written/plotted 2k a day due Aug 31st — I will be starting on this shortly as soon as the novel is finished.
5. Paranormal Romance short story 2k/day due Aug 9th — Gave up on this

I received a rejection this week for a short story I submitted back in July. It was sad, but I left the ending wide open to become a novel, so I think it’s going to be on my project list for next year. Maybe I’ll get 4 books written next year. Eeeek!

I’m going to be participating in a short story writing sprint for submission to the same publisher who rejected me. It’s post-apocalyptic and/or zombie. I’m interested to see how it’s going to go. That’ll be this coming Saturday.

I’m also debating on turning the rejected story into the Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story. I would need to add at least 4,000 words to it for the submission guidelines to fit, but I think I can do it. It’s percolating in my brain right now while I finish up Fallen from Grace. We shall see.

Off to church!

The Seventh Commandment — WIPpet Wednesday in style

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about this novel series, it’s that people really like Peter. Peter is a bit troubled, but he has a great sense of innocence about him! He’s seen a lot in his short life, but he’s a character.

The chapter I’ve been working on has Peter in it. And I can’t tell you how many readers have told me they love Peter. So Peter’s gotta keep on showing up!

Here’s 8 paragraphs from chapter 14 of Fallen from Grace! That’s my easy WIPpet math for today.

“‘A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” … The Samaritan woman therefore said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have give you living water.”’ This is my favorite part,” Peter added.

“Uh huh,” Grace reverted back to her earlier statements.

“He’s talking about the water of life, the wellspring of life that comes with faith and believing. It’s such an amazing gift to have.”

Grace muttered, “I’m sure.”

Peter bounced in his seat as he continued. Grace ignored him as much as possible and pushed her foot down on the gas peddle to get to the school faster.

“God gives us the living water, and that’s how we keep going when it gets rough. We always know God is there for us, healing us, saving us, comforting us. It’s just perfect isn’t it? A water that never dies and will never dry up and make us thirsty.”

Grace sighed. “It’s great for those who believe in it, Peter.”

She bit her tongue when the tension in the car clustered together and made it hard to breathe. She hadn’t meant to be so short with him, but her patience had been worn thin over the past month. Licking her lips and slipping him a glance, Grace went to apologize.

Onto a ROW80 update!

1. Fallen from Grace: write 1 chapter a week (moving week excluded) — I wrote chapter 13 this week, and I’m working on chapter 14. I hope to have this novel finished being written by the end of the day on Friday. My lovely betas are on chapter 11! So I have to finish it otherwise they’ll be waiting impatiently!
2. Promo: Answer three interview questions a day until done
3. Promo: Write out a guest post a week until done
4. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written/plotted 2k a day due Aug 31st — still haven’t started working on this one at all. Once Grace is done, then I’ll do it!

5. Paranormal Romance short story 2k/day due Aug 9th — I’ve unfortunately given up on this. It’s August 6th and the piece still only has 2,000 words in it. It will not be finished in time for submission.
