Brandi Carlile Rabbit Hole #ROW80 #NaNoWriMo

So many rabbit holes this week, but the one I’m super excited about is Brandy Carlile music! It’s my new favorite station on Pandora to write to. My kids are so tired of be “playing music” on the TV instead of television shows for them. I keep telling them it’ll make them smarter, but I don’t think the 4 year old and 2 year old care much.

As for ROW80, I hit some goals this week but I also again slowed down this week. Seems to happen when I finish something. Totally normal! I finished writing my lawyer piece, ended up having to rewrite the whole last 4-5 chapters of outline. I finished editing Eira, formally know as Glacial Freeze/Thaw. FINALLY NAMED THAT SUCKER! Thanks all goes to my spouse who named it for me. I also sent it in for submission.

Because I finished writing a piece, I was supposed to write Love Burns: Take 2 next for NaNoWriMo, which my goal was to write three romantic pieces, but…I don’t know…just wasn’t feeling it? I managed the first chapter, and stopped to outline Young & Old. Ended up writing the first full chapter of that which was much easier. So the next 8 days of NaNo, I’m either going to focus on Young & Old or I’m going to flip flop between the two of them. Who knows.

De-Termination marketing has picked up massively. My release is 8 days away. Eeeek! So, I’m working on finishing filling out slots for my release party (need at least 1 more preferably). I need to check in with ARC reviewers, and I’ve been making teasers and figuring out posts. I’ll start doing my live readings of De-Termination next weekend after one more live reading of Unbound on Tuesday.

SIDE NOTE: I realized I needed a series bible for well everything. Anyway, so I started work on that, specifically focusing on Agent Morgan Stones series and Grace Halling Series stuff because those two are so interconnected and Morgan is a new series so best place to start. I think I’m going to take the last week in December, when I’m on vacation from day job, and really work on some of this.

This was long, but like I said, so many rabbit holes this week! I’m going to go swoon over some more Brandi Carlile now.

TO DO

  1. Marketing for De-Termination (Quarter Life #2) – a constant WIP
  2. Write Race War (Agent Morgan Stone #2)
  3. Write Young & Old (Missing Persons #3) – IN PROGRESS
  4. Write Love Burns: Take 2 – IN PROGRESS
  5. Edit Stone’s Mistake (Agent Morgan Stone #1)

DONE

  1. FINAL EDITS De-Termination (Quarter Life #2)
  2. Write Glacial Freeze
  3. Edit Broken & Weary (Missing Persons #2)
  4. Edit Release (Quarter Life #3)
  5. Write F/M/F romance piece
  6. Write Lawyer romance piece
  7. Edit Glacial Freeze aka Eir

Release Day!! #newrelease #lesbian #anthology #romancenovel @supposedcrimes

I can’t believe today is finally here! I’ve been building up for this since like the beginning of January, not joking. Today is release day, for a novel I’ve been waiting to share with everyone and for an anthology with a story I am ridiculously proud of. Here’s the how and the why of what I think is some of my best work.

To start — the anthology

Young Love, Oldoldloveyoungheartsfinal Hearts might have been a bit of my idea. I threw it out there for my publisher, and she loved it, so she made that the topic for one of her anthologies she’s doing this year. Then I had to write something. I don’t know if you know how hard it is to write a short story when you’re used to writing novels, but it’s damn hard. There’s a severe limitation in what can happen because of the lack of length.

A Blizzard’s Blow started as a simple romance, moving from one partner to another partner because it was just time to do that, finding love in an unexpected place and time, and going with the flow. That is not what it turned into. Most of you may know that, knowing me and my writing, I don’t really write straight (haha) romances.

So there’s a twist, one that was completely unexpected for me when I was writing it, and it seriously was on my mind for weeks afterward. It feels as though I hit the nail on the head with this one. Enough intrigue, enough foreshadowing, enough plot and character development. I’m absolutely in love with this short story. So check it out!

Description:

Everyone hears “He’s too young for you.” “She’s too old for you.” Not between these pages. This anthology crosses the age gap with nine enchanting stories of cross-generational relationships. Some are sweet, some are sexy, some are heartbreaking. One is downright murderous. The protagonists are gay men and women searching for true love or trying out what’s right in front of them.

Now — to the novel!

Memoir in the Making started as a rebellion for me. I got really tired of reviewers telling me there was no romance in my novels. Most of the time, I didn’t intend there tMemoir04sampleo be romance, so I guess it’s a compliment in that I accomplished what I set out to do. However, when people read the word “lesbian” or “F/F fiction” they ASSUME there’s romance in the story. I personally don’t think every novel has to be a romance novel, and I prefer a lot of plot in what I read.

Anyway, so I decided to write a pure romance novel to kind of say FU to those reviewers who said I don’t write romance. Writing a romance novel has always been on my mind, and I’ve started many throughout the years I’ve been writing. I don’t usually get beyond the first chapter because I, as the author, get bored. And if I, as the author, get bored, I have no doubt my readers will be bored.

But it was so different with Ainsley and Meredith. I wrote the first thousand words before bed one night in an utter rage and about fifteen minutes. Then I tried to go to bed and couldn’t get them out of my damn head! I came back the next day and decided, Okay, I’ll write this thing, and I’ll make it a short novella, 20k words max, and then I’ll submit it somewhere that accepts those. That was the plan. Then I started outlining, as I do. And the outline grew bigger and longer, and there were plot twists and character development and history and some damn awesome side characters.

I head desked it. Multiple times. Finally gave up trying to keep it at 20k words and let the novel flow as it needed to flow. Then I started writing. This was my November NaNoWriMo project even though I was supposed to be writing on Grace through Redemption. I wrote this novel in thirteen days. It flew out of me unexpectedly for sure.

Welcome to Memoir in the Making.

Description

The first day of her junior year in college was supposed to go off without a hitch. But when Ainsley Jacobs sat in her memoir class with a professor she’d never had before, her life took an unexpected turn. She couldn’t get her well-dressed professor, Meredith Frenz, out of her head.

Meredith had lived a lonely yet comfortable life for the past fifteen years, and despite flings here and there, she had no desire to jump head first into a relationship, especially one with her student. Despite all her thwarted efforts, Meredith was determined to keep to herself and push Ainsley away.

Forbidden love is often the most attractive.

Dog Chases #row80 and #WIPpet

I’ve been doing a lot of writing so far this week. It’s been so relaxing and awesome. Grace through Redemption had started the beta reading process and I got the prologue back last night. w00t! I hope the novel will be done soon. Unfortunately my brand new barely a month old computer has been crashing. So I lost some record of my daily word counts. I tried to cobble them together. Also…I’m really mad that my brand new computer is giving me this many issues. It’s hard to get anything done on it.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Sunday — 2545
    • Monday — 2404
    • Tuesday — 3825
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • I had planned for an extra Open When Tuesday, but I didn’t do it, so now Thursday. Other than that I have all the blog posts for this week going well.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Haven’t touched this goal yet.

Now for WIPpet Wednesday. I’m still writing Grace through Redemption, even though it’s with beta’s. They’re taking it chapter by chapter and it’s really good motivation for writing the next chapter should I need it. Since I’m having issues picking an excerpt. Here’s 21 sentences for the day of the month from Grace through Redemption called “Moving Day” you’ll find out why shortly. It’s short sentences since it’s mostly dialogue.

Letting out a breath, Grace pushed open the car door and stood up straight. She shut the door quickly, really not wanting a repeat chase of the dog. She said nothing. Amya grabbed her by the cheeks and kissed her hard. Grace felt tears prick at her eyes again and clenched them closed as much as she could so Amya wouldn’t see.

“Whatever you’re thinking, it’s not true,” Amya whispered.

“What are you talking about?”

Amya narrowed her eyes and then shook her head. She opened the door and grabbed the dogs collar, not bothering with a leash. She dragged her back into the bedroom, Grace hot on her heels, locking Roslin in the room.

“Izzy is still outside. I was wondering what was taking you so long, and you didn’t answer your phone.”

“My phone? I—” Grace felt around her pockets but didn’t find the item she was looking for. Amya held her hand up, Grace’s phone between her fingers.

“You left it at my house.”

“Oh. Dog got loose.”

“I see that. Took you an hour to find her?”

“An hour?”

“Yeah.”

“She runs fast,” Grace narrowed her eyes and pouted. If an hour had truly past then she was worse at catching someone than she thought she was.

Sighing, she walked back out to her car and pulled out the last box from the back. She carried it into the house and deposited it in the spare bedroom. When she turned around, Amya was standing in the doorway.

“The guys are loading up the first truck load.”

“Good,” Grace muttered.

“What happened?”

Grace’s head shot up. She shook it when she realized Amya was talking more deeply than she had anticipated. Damn that woman for seeing things Grace didn’t want her to see. “Nothing, just was thinking.”

“About?”

“How I’m a bad cop and yadda yadda. I know.” Grace held up her hand. “Don’t say it.”

“Good.” Amya wrapped her arms around Grace’s middle and rested her chin on Grace’s shoulder. “At least you said it to yourself this time so I don’t have to say it.”

Grace snorted. “Yeah. Now, come on. Let’s get you moved in here. I need to shovel the new snow for the guys.”

And that’s my WIPpet for today! See you all on the flip side. =P

Loneliness Ebbs Deep COVER REVEAL!! #monstererotica #erotica #lesbian #FF

I am ridiculously excited to share this with you all today! We wrote this story this past summer and submitted it for an anthology. Haven’t heard anything, and the piece was just sitting there. Rachael and I have decided to release it in December and share it with everyone who wants it! Half the time I can’t believe we wrote this story.
Title: Loneliness Ebbs Deep
Author: Adrian J. Smith & Rachael Orman
Genre: Monster Erotica
Publication Date: December 15, 2014
Living in a closed society hasn’t given Kaya many opportunities to explore her sexuality. With no family around and no one to take care of her, Kaya wanders through the forest to the forbidden lake. Curiosity and the unknown prompt her to touch and feel everything she has been missing. And when Helki arrives, the façade she lives in is shattered.
*Intended for Audiences 18 yrs+ — This is MONSTER EROTICA so expect the unexpected**

It’s been rumored that she was once a spy for the government, but anyone who has gotten close enough to know the truth has never lived to tell the tale. When traveling around the world on various classified tasks, Smith requires the following be provided: buffalo jerky, mimosas, and eighty-six pennies. This is all we know about the reclusive woman.

Disgust in One’s self #WIPpetWednesday

Hello all! It’s evening here, and I’m writing this post early, but I normally do. I have internet tomorrow, so I should be able to keep up with everyone’s post throughout the day. Yay!

To cut to the chase. I’ve been writing a lot lately. I haven’t quite managed to write every day, but I have at least managed to keep up in my goal of a word count. Mostly because of days like today where I write almost 7k words to make up for not writing the entire weekend. My weeks just seem to be getting busier and busier as they go along.

My goal is still to finished Quarter Life: Unbound by the end of October, and thank God! I’m on track to do that. I’m starting to think about my NaNo Project, which means at least plotting out the first few chapters in my head.

Anyway…onto WIPpet. Here’s my excerpt for the day from Quarter Life: Unbound. Now, I changed my MC’s name. Long story as to why, but it needed to happen. So now Faye=Emma. Same character, new name. This follows the chapter with the Troll from last week. You get 1 paragraph for the first of the month. My math is so easy today.

Here we go…

Mike breathed heavily on her, the air flowing from his mouth over her chest. Faye shifted slightly to a more comfortable position. The smell of his blood dominated her thoughts. She hated drinking from humans. It felt wrong to her, like a violation of trust. Most of them didn’t know she existed, yet she still preyed on them like animals. And they weren’t animals, they were intelligent monsters just like those in her own family line.

Hope you enjoyed! Check out other WIPpeteers here.

A New WIPpet! #WIPpetWednesday and #ROW80 update

Well…I finished my novel! Yay! So that means I’m editing it, so still technically a WIP, but I’m going to start posting from Emma again. I finally have a title for it, not sure if I ever shared that. This novel has about 34,000 words written and I think it’ll end up being around 90,000 for the whole novel. It’s a third done and my goal is to finish it BEFORE NaNoWriMo. I want to write Grace through Redemption for NaNo. But I’m getting married in a few weeks, so I’m not quite sure how that’s going to work out.

Anyway, I’m going to do ROW80 update first.

1. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written by Aug 31st. 2k words a week.

2. Post-Apocalyptic/Zombie short story needs to be written by Sept 27th. 2k words a week.

3. Editing Fallen from Grace. 3 chapters a week.

I haven’t done anything except the third goal. I did finish my three chapters this week. I’m thinking I need to up it so I can finish editing before I get married. I think I’ll keep this as the goal and try to do extra! =P

For WIPpet.

I do not in anyway remember what I posted from this previously. So here’s a snippet from chapter 13, which is the last completely written chapter. 6 short paragraphs after some shit went down =P Molly and Emma are talking it out. (Yes, I’m aware Emma is called Caroline. I think that’ll be confusing until people read the whole novel. She’s lying about her identity, so when from Molly’s POV, Emma is referred to as Caroline.) My math is easy this week 20 (for the day) – (14 for the year) = 6.

The title of the series is Quarter Life, and the title of this book is Unbound. =D

Molly waited patiently until Caroline was calmed down enough to start talking again. Amachon was still nowhere to be seen, and she knew he would not return until she was done or until Joel woke up. Sliding a stool over so that she could sit, Molly waited a few more seconds before asking Caroline to continue.

“After that?” Caroline said. “I don’t really remember exactly. Chloroform—I remember the smell. Then I kind of woke up a little bit and realized we’d been drugged. Everything was so slow. And dark.”

“What happened?”

“Kirill.”

Molly remained silent as did Caroline. There was little need for an explanation as to why. Molly had essentially stolen for Kirill in his mind and thus he would steal from her. That was explanation enough for him. If she hadn’t done it, hadn’t allowed Jelena and her sons into her home and offered to hide them, Caroline would not have been put in danger.

It was one thing for Joel to be put in danger; he was her employee and knew the circumstances surrounding her work. Caroline was there by default of being too close to the situation in general. None of this should have happened to Caroline, and it was entirely Molly’s fault.

Playing with words #WIPpetWednesday and #ROW80

Let’s do ROW80 update first today.

1. Fallen from Grace: write 1 chapter a week (moving week excluded)

FINISHED!! Cue the chimes! Ring the bell! Throw the confetti!! I’m FINISHED!

2. Promo: Answer three interview questions a day until done
3. Promo: Write out a guest post a week until done

4. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written/plotted 2k a day due Aug 31st

Time to get cracking on this.

5. Paranormal Romance short story 2k/day due Aug 9th

Since I’ve finished most of my goals for this round, I’m going to make new goals.

1. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written by Aug 31st. 2k words a week.

2. Post-Apocalyptic/Zombie short story needs to be written by Sept 27th. 2k words a week.

3. Editing Fallen from Grace. 3 chapters a week.

yayayayayayayayayayayayayay!

Also…

Today is cover reveal day for Ashes Fall! I’ve already given a bit of a preview of it, but I’ll post it and two teasers I made up.

Ashes2finalAshesFallTeaser1 AshesFallTeaser3

This book will be released on September 1st!

Okay…now onto WIPpet.

I was told last week, after I had posted last week, by my beta reader that I needed to post this excerpt. If you get the reference, you get bonus points for the day! Today I give you 13 short paragraphs from chapter 12.

She fired up her computer as she sat outside the house with her lights no longer on. Opening a new report, Grace filled in all the appropriate information before clicking “Report Complete” at the bottom of the screen. Her stomach growled as she put her cruiser in drive, and Grace decided to hit the diner for lunch before it closed. Not being one for driving while talking on the phone, Grace put her car back in park and called the top number on her favorites list in her phone.

“This is Ruby’s.”

“Hey, Sueanne. I wanted to place an order for pick up.”

“Go ahead with it.”

“I’d like a healthy dose of hash and scrambled, dry. Also two sides of toast, white with not butter, and four packets of strawberry jelly.”

“Grace?”

“Yup, that’s me.”

Sueanne giggled. “I should have known it was you. I’ll have them put in an order for chocolate milk too.”

“Thanks!”

“Total is seven o’ nine.”

“That’s it?”

“It’s a special.”

Grace smiled, said her thanks and hung up. She would have fifteen minutes before it was ready to be picked up, but that wasn’t a long way. She drove through the neighborhood to give it a quick check before heading over to the diner to pick up her meal. She’d eat in her car, not wanting to talk to more people than necessary.

A ROW80 Update on a Sunday Morn…

Welcome to my crazy morning. Sundays are always going to be insane for me! So I’m going to make this quick.

1. Fallen from Grace: write 1 chapter a week (moving week excluded): I wrote chapters 11, and 12 this past week, and I have about 1,000 more words on chapter 13. That MEANS!!! I only have two more chapters to write and the novel is complete! My betas are up to chapter 10, so I might just get this book out earlier than expected *crosses fingers* I sent in for the covers to be done, so I should be getting those soon for books 2 & 3 in this series. Eeeeek!
2. Promo: Answer three interview questions a day until done
3. Promo: Write out a guest post a week until done
4. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written/plotted 2k a day due Aug 31st –This is so not happening
5. Paranormal Romance short story 2k/day due Aug 9th — I’m worried this is so not happening. We haven’t made any more progress on it, and the 9th is well, fast approaching…

Also! If you didn’t already think I was insane with these goals for ROW80. I have two novels releasing in the span of a month. Whew. That means tons of book tours going on and getting set up. The one that just released on the 1st is a stand-alone!

70a86-awccoverJane expected six months undercover to be hard; she expected it to be lonely and bleak. She didn’t expect to find love.

Doesn’t this sound like a fun and awesome read? It’s going on a tour soon too! I wanted to share with you a review from a tour it went on in July.

S. A. Snow’s “Across Worlds: Collision” is steamy and perfect, especially if you like both M/F and F/F action! Usnavi, the leading alien of the novel, is capable of changing sexes and this makes for some hawt encounters! I loved this book – couldn’t put it down. Very sexy and also a great storyline. Kind of a sexed up version of “Calculating God” by Robert J. Sawyer. A really great, complete, standalone book. Also, strangely, if you suffered through morning sickness and other pregnancy woes, there’s a little bit of turn-about-is-fair-play in this book on that count! Amazing! 4.5 out of 5

#WIPpet Wednesday and a #ROW80 update

I’m clearly creative in coming up with blog titles. =P I’m finally getting settled into the house in Kansas, well as much as I can get settled. They’re renovating half of the house, everything upstairs, so I’m living in the basement. Makes it very interesting. I haven’t had plumbing to a toilet in two days! But the plumber is supposedly coming to do to finish up and they can start on the upstairs bathroom.

Anyway…enough about my toilets. Because that’s not awkward at all.

I do finally have wifi and cable at my house as of Tuesday, so updating for ROW80 should be a breeze from now on. I’m going to do my ROW80 update first this week.

1. Fallen from Grace: write 1 chapter a week (moving week excluded)
2. Promo: Answer three interview questions a day until done
3. Promo: Write out a guest post a week until done
4. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written/plotted 2k a day due Aug 31st
5. Paranormal Romance short story 2k/day due Aug 9th

1. I finished chapter 9 “Probation Station” and I am hoping to finish chapter 10 “Kiss of Betrayal” by Friday…
2. Completed this yesterday!
3. Completed this yesterday!
4. Don’t know if this is going to happen at all…now that promo is done, I can start thinking about it.
5. We’re going to start writing on this today, assuming we don’t forget again like we did the last time! Wed, Thurs, and Fri. So hopefully the first draft will be done by Friday!

Now…for WIPpet.

If you don’t know what WIPpet is, it’s really simple. A WIPpet is a snippet from your WIP (Work In Progress). The snippet correlates to the date in some way, shape or form!

This week is an excerpt from the chapter I’m currently writing in Fallen from Grace. Chapter is called Probation Station. Math is difficult–

7 + 23 = 30 +20 = 50 – (4 – 1)= 47

You get 47 words from chapter 9! I’m debating on context or not…so I’ll leave it off and if it gets confusing I’ll put it in a comment somewhere. =P

She cleaned her face with her hands, headed to the bathroom to throw cold water on her face before sitting down in the break room and staring at the food in front of her. Her appetite had gone out the door along with her pride and sanity.

And that’s a wrap folks!

#WIPpet and #ROW80 ayup…it’s July 16, 2014

Hey all.

Yes, I know I didn’t do ROW80 on Sunday. Alls fair, I was in a house with no internet at all, and it would not have been pretty if I’d done the update on my phone.

I’ll do my ROW80 update first, since it’s easy. I’ve done nothing. All of this….

…and nothing. It’s moving week, so I feel I’m excluded from keeping up with my goals (since that was intended when I created the goals). I’m still packing, and packing, and packing. I just had a quick trip up to Montana, and now I’m moving on Friday. So…more packing. Yup…that’s my ROW80 update.

Now…onto WIPpet

I do have something for WIPpet.

You get 12 sentences following (kind of) what you saw last week from Fallen from Grace. Grace is still at the hoarders house. There’s a bit in between, but you should be able to follow.

My math? 16-6 = 9 + 4 = 13 – 1 = 12 simple…right? Uh huh… so here we go…

She was just about to walk back in when Toulouse arrived on the scene. Grace changed her direction and headed toward his cruiser. Waiting until he was parked and out of the vehicle, she ran down what she knew.

“Animal Control called us out to assist in a seizure warrant. The owner is known to be violent.”

“You smell like horse shit, Halling.”

“No, sir. I smell like cat shit and piss,” she answered without stopping. She continued, “I found the owner in the second bedroom on the ground. He’s half eaten from the cats, no doubt hungry since they weren’t being fed. His body is cold and stiff. They’re sending someone out.”

Toulouse pinched his nose and shook his head at her. “Really, Halling. You have shit all over your face and in your hair.”

“I’m well aware. Owner is Barry Glowner. The info we have on him says he’s sixty-three years old, lives here by himself, and keeps to himself. Hinds was getting contact information for his daughter last I checked.”

“Go home,” Toulouse said.

“Sir?”

“Go home. Take a shower, or two, or three. Then get a clean uniform and make sure you wash that one a dozen times. Then come back to finish out your shift. I’ll expect your report by end of day tomorrow.”

Grace sighed. She looked at her cruiser and felt the pull of a hot shower to clean up. She felt torn in two directions. One way was the nice hot shower and gallon of soap she desperately wanted. The other way was back to the house to capture the rest of the cats. Grace licked her lips, immediately regretted it and stared up at her curly haired Sergeant.

“I think I’ll stick around and help them out for a bit. I’m already all nastified anyway. What could it hurt?”

Toulouse gave her a nod, and Grace headed back toward the house and dead owner.

Excerpt:
Blood pounded in her temples, and Sonia’s feet hit the pavement. Tears blurred her vision as the reality of what almost happened sunk in. He was the killer, and he knew where she lived. He was a fallen angel.

Turning the corner, she saw the tattoo parlor and picked up her pace. The shadows mocked her from every angle. He would be out there waiting. His oily presence oozed unholy joy at her panic, and she stumbled, almost losing her footing on the uneven sidewalk. Footsteps echoed on the street behind her, and in her panic, she couldn’t distinguish between friend and foe.

The glass doors loomed large, windows covered with posters of the latest trends in piercing and ink.

Pulling maniacally on the door, Sonia let out a howl of frustration to discover it locked. “Son of a bitch! Oh Goddess! Open up!” Tears ran down her face, and she tore at the door, hoping for some weakness that would allow her entry. Something. Anything.

She bit back a sob and staggered backward. It was over. He would find her in moments.

The street had become too quiet and the echo of sinister laughter crept along the edge of darkness. The bastard was playing with her.

Fear shot through Sonia’s body, numb and cold, causing her to yelp as the doors rattled behind her.

The sound of a barking dog came from the interior of the shop.

A voluptuous dark-haired woman leaned out, the bluish light illuminating her features with beams of icy radiance. “If you’re looking for a corner, succubus, you’ve picked the wrong one. Move it along.”

Sonia stepped closer to the door, turning her head into the light. “I’m here to see Fae.” She wrapped her arms around herself, shivering. The T-shirt and jeans had been warm enough earlier, but the air had turned chillier.

“Red?” The woman’s eyes grew wide. She assessed Sonia’s every movement.

Sonia shook her head, tears pricking at the corner of her eyes. “Do you know me?

The barking of a dog sounded closer, and the dark-haired woman drew back as the little body pushed past her.

Sonia leaned down. “What are you doing here?”

The little dog barked furiously, wagging its tail and whining. Its furry little face searched Sonia’s, and it jumped against Sonia’s leg, licking her hand.

“Hey there. Glad to see you made it home.” Sonia reached down at petted dog’s head.

Snorting, the dog rubbed its head against Sonia’s hand, letting out a delighted sound.

“Your dog knows me.” Sonia searched the dark-haired woman’s face. “I saved it. In the alley yesterday. There was a demon trying to take it.”

“Jellybean, what have you been doing?” Fae returned her gaze to Sonia and stared hard. “You saved her? How?”

A frustrated snort came from the dog, and she growled at the shadows.

“You’re lucky that you have a hellhound to watch over you. Someone must have loved you a lot.”

The woman’s face softened. “My mother. Jellybean was the last gift she gave me before she died.”

“Can you please let me in?” Sonia glanced behind her. The shadows grew longer, and the temperature continued to drop. The street was deserted now. “I need to see Fae. Monty sent me.” Sonia hated that her voice shook. She couldn’t help but notice the woman who blocked her path was intoxicating. The stranger’s dark hair rippled in the cold light of the shop, and her tight fitting shirt revealed far more than it chose to conceal. Her eyes burned black in the darkness, and despite her fear, Sonia felt herself falling inside them. They were safe. Familiar somehow. It didn’t make sense.

“Why the hell would Monty send you here?” The woman straightened, and the illusion of a simple shop owner vanished.

Jellybean barked. The dog’s body tensed, and she stood in front of Sonia, protecting her from the darkness beyond. The energy on the street grew malignant. The dog’s eyes flashed red and power radiated from her.

Sonia and the woman stared, momentarily speechless.

“Well, I’ll be damned. Come on.” The woman grinned as Jellybean jumped up and down. “Get in here.”

Dark laughter echoed down the street and Sonia flinched.

Jellybean growled, the hair on the back of her neck standing straight up.

Sighing deeply, the woman held the door open. “Come on then. Jellybean’s vouching for you and I’ve been looking for you myself.”

“Thank you.” Sonia scurried through the door, tears of relief brimming on her lashes. She blinked, but the tears still managed to fall. She was an immortal. Fear was not something she was used to living with, and it made her angry. Her head and soul were still spinning from everything that had happened in the past hour. She staggered. Her life was about to change even more. She could feel it.

Q&A:

How did you come up with Sigil Fire?

This story began as a writing prompt that didn’t make it into the anthology it was originally intended for. After much more work, I sent it in to the Ylva Halloween anthology and the amazing and wonderful Astrid believed it could be so much more. What was a nine thousand word story became a nearly thirty thousand word novella.

Will there be a sequel?

Yes. Charley, Perry, Sonia and Fae will be back for book two, which has already begun.

Favorite dessert?

Chocolate. Any kind. Anywhere.

Do you have a pet?

Yes. My husband and I have a pack of furry canine children that constantly keep us on our toes.

Favorite place to relax?

That would have to be in bed with a good book, my puppy Tadpole by my side.

Who are some of your favorite urban fantasy or erotic authors?

There are so many! I love Kim Harrison, Lisabet Sarai, Jaye Wells, Red Phoenix, Cari Silverwood, DL King, Alison Tyler, Rachel Kramer Bussel, Rhavensfyre, Patricia Briggs, Laura Antoniou…the list goes on and on. If I could be sealed in a room for a year I would never be bored reading these fabulous authors and more.

What are you working on now?

I have several works in progress. I write for the serial, Club Rook and have just finished the last two episodes to finish out the first season. There is also a CYOA for Silk Words, a twisted fairy tale for Decadent and a Halloween tale for my wonderful friends at Ylva. Not to mention the second book in the Sigil Fire series and two urban fantasy tales…

WIPpet Wednesday…. a WIP that’s….not really a WIP =P

I might be breaking the rules a bit, but I don’t want to give you the tentacle erotica at all. So … I’m going to give you a bit more from the sci-fi short I gave you last week. I just submitted it on Sunday, so here’s to hoping I hear back soon. *crosses fingers*

So here you go! My WIPpet that’s not really truly a WIPpet anymore.

For the second of July, you get two lines from page 14. So…. here you go

“Where are we going?” Laila asked and glanced at the cave entrance.

“To fight a war.”

If you would like to join in WIPpet Wednesdays, all you have to do is post an excerpt of your work in progress (unlike me) on your blog and link it up here. Make sure your post correlates with the date somehow! Then check out all the other posts.

A brand new WIPpet for a …. month that’s just ending?

I’ve actually be doing some writing lately! It’s been so nice to be writing and NOT editing. w00t! However, I’m still not writing on what I should be writing, which is Fallen from Grace. I’ll take that on as soon as I finish either this current short or…maybe two more. Ashes Fall is officially with the publisher, and I’m hoping I’m not sent another round of edits.

I’ve also stepped out of my comfort zone with a short story I co-wrote last week and started editing this week. It’s tentacle erotica. And my fiance informs me that this is actually a thing, it’s called Hentai, and I’m finding through talking about it that A LOT of people actually read/watch Hentai. Go figure! It’s a short story to be submitted and hopefully accepts into an anthology.

The second short story currently in process is a scifi lesbian piece that’s supposed to be non-erotica, but oh my gosh, all the opportunities are there to make it erotic! I’m resisting though. This one is also to be submitted to an anthology, but this submission is due July 5! Eek! I’ll need some beta readers for it, so if anyone is interested, please let me know!

The WIPpet today is from this scifi lesbian short story. My math is very simple, 6 paragraphs for the month of June. You’ll get the first six paragraphs in the either piece. It’s also completely unedited, so I apologize. The main character’s name is subject to change, but the current name is helping me envision her.

Her bare feet pounded against the packed, dry dirt as she raced through the woods. Trees snagged in her hair, pulling out the dark, brown strands as she dared not stop to untangle it. Laila breathed heavily, fogging up the goggles situated over her eyes. Reaching up, she wiped it off to see better and cleared her vision just in time to see the tree branch swinging in her direction.

Laila ducked down, the branch brushing against the top of her head and getting caught in her nappy hair. She gasped as she pushed up from the dirt and stumbled as she pushed forward. Her heart ratcheted in her throat as she continued forward, not daring to look back.

She pressed her palm to the tree when the ground beneath her tilted. Her head spun and her body lost its balance, knocking her over onto her butt. Pulling herself up to lean against the base of the tree, Laila gasped for breath as she pressed a hand to her ribcage. Pain swelled in her chest as she desperately begged for air to enter her lungs.

Loud bangs echoed through the woods, crashes as what was chasing her edged closer. Laila scrunched her nose and forced her sore and aching body to move. She stood up and leaned against the tree base, pushing onward. Risking a glance back, Laila’s goggles confirmed what she could not see by naked eye.

Green lines formed the enemy, following its line of movement as it continued in her direction. Red flashed in the corner to let her know the proximity was too close. Had she had time, Laila would have uttered a snarky comment. Instead, she stepped over a wayward tree root, her heel hitting the back of it and scraping the skin off. She winced and cried out but kept moving even as the blood trickled onto the ground.

She would have to make it stop bleeding if she really wanted to get away—it was just another trail for the monstrosity to follow. Laila looked forward, her goggles creating a path for her to take so she could get away more quickly. With her hand still at her side, Laila pushed onward through the tall trees.

Now that I’ve rambled on enough and given you an excerpt! Please join in! If you would like to join in WIPpet Wednesdays, it’s simple and open to all. Just post an excerpt from your current WIP (Work In Progress) and have it in some way correlate with the date or be the start of a new piece. Then link it up here, go and read the other posts, comment and voila! Fin!

Merci a K. L Schwengel!

#authorcorner Interview with Leigh Ellwood

Welcome one, welcome all! I had the wonderful opportunity this week to interview Leigh Ellwood about her upcoming novel and about writing in general! You’ll find that interview below.

I am Leigh Ellwood. I write smutty stories about people who like getting naked and having sex. Some have more sex than others, some have sex with people of the same gender, some have sex with more than one person, and still others have sex with toys and things that require the use of batteries. My stories range from a few thousand words to well past 70k. The book list link above breaks everything down for you – genre, length, and other attributes. My books are available at Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, Kobo, and ARe. Really, just type my name in any bookstore site and something is bound to show up.

Tell us about yourself. (can include or just be the author bio if you would like)

Hi there. Here’s the tl;dr version: I’m Leigh Ellwood and I write romance and erotica. I have been published under this name for almost ten years, and I have books with Phaze Books, Ellora’s Cave (later this month) and Decadent Publishing. I have also self-published some of my backlist. I live in the South and love to read and do yoga, and drink wine!

What is one thing not in your bio, something totally random that only a few people know?

I do write under other pen names, but I keep them separate. If you really want to know them, you can always shoot me an e-mail.

What made you decide to write? If it even was a decision. And what kept you at it?

I wouldn’t call it a decision – more like something hardwired into me. It comes naturally, and I just enjoy telling stories. New ideas keep me writing, and if I sell some that’s a bonus.

Who has been your biggest inspiration and support in writing and in publishing? Doesn’t have to be an author or anything, and yes, it can be your mom or dad.

I’m grateful for my family and my closest friend; he cracks the whip when I need it. Teachers have encouraged me to write more, and of course I read constantly. I’m inspired by too many writers to name.

Why is it that you are an independent author? What prompted the decision to publish with a small press publisher, and how has that experience been?

Eventually I will pursue traditional methods. Right now, I feel the stories I write are better fits for smaller presses. I do write gay and lesbian erotica, and the readership is strong there among certain small pubs. I also tend to write certain lengths that trad publishers will not touch. Over the last decades I’ve had several victories and disappointments. At the end of the day, though, I’m writing and that makes me happy.

Tell us a bit about Sugar Rush, without spoilers of course.

Sugar Rush is a novella of lesbian romance, written specifically for a call Ellora’s Cave did for their Hot Pink line. It’s about a baker named Neve who connects with Judy, a shy girl with a sweet tooth. Neve becomes somewhat of a celebrity when she agrees to cater a same-sex wedding, which leads to various complications in her new relationship.

If you could meet one character in real life from Sugar Rush—who would it be and why?

Definitely Neve. She makes awesome cupcakes!

What do you do when you get stuck in your writing? What happens when that nasty writer’s block sets down and refuses to budge—if you believe in writer’s block that is?

It happens to me. Sometimes if I’m stuck on a story I’ll set it aside and noodle on something else, listen to music, watch TV, anything to get the ideas flowing again.

Would you mind sharing some of your ups and some of your downs about writing and about publishing? Any advice to new and upcoming authors?

First thing to remember: it’s not a sprint. It’s a marathon. If you don’t hit immediately don’t believe it will never happen. I have published books that sold well, and others that flopped. Also, publish the way YOU want to – don’t feel you have to self-pub because everybody is doing it. If you want to submit to Harlequin or Ellora’s Cave, do it! You control your writing career.

Here’s a more serious question. What is it like to write in the LGBT realm of craziness that we all support? What’s it like to dip the toe into the rainbow through writing and publishing?

I like to call myself a storyteller. Sometimes, the stories are about same sex couples who fall in love. Happily Ever Afters aren’t limited to one type of person, and I enjoy reading LGBT stories as well as writing them. I like the community of writers, too. Everybody is different and believes in a common cause.

Why focus on the LGBT genre? What are the plusses and what are the minuses of doing so?

Like I said, sometimes a story calls for a same-sex pairing. If I could have done anything different, though, I might have considered a separate pen name for LGBT stories. I write all pairings, and sometimes a ménage. I kept everything under my Leigh name to build my backlist and variety. It’s great for readers who are interested in anything, but this way I’m also unpredictable. A reader may wish for an M/M story from me, and I publish F/F first. So I can understand that.

WIPpet Wednesday! May 21, 2014

Hey all!! Life is good, life is easy! I’m skipping straight to the WIPpet today. =P

Continuing on from last week, a bit more of Amya’s adventures in the shower.

My math is simple. This is the 5th month so you get 5 paragraphs. Yay! So here we go.

She wanted to kiss her way up Grace’s neck, something she’d only done a few times. She wanted to work her way back down and tug her shirt—Amya stopped. Her eyelids flew open and she stared down at the tub to where she’d dropped her loofa. She froze the movements of her hand on her body and took in a deep staggering breath.

What was she doing? She sniffled and moved her hand, feeling as she had betrayed herself, Grace, and their relationship. Amya stepped under the hot spray of the water and washed the suds from the pomegranate body wash off. She leaned down and turned the temperature up, heating her skin until it was red and not pink.

Her body still hummed. It betrayed her more and more with each passing second. She wanted to touch herself, wanted to imagine Grace doing those exact things to her body, making her feel high on pleasure. She wanted Grace to be there.

Amya ignored the tears in her eyes, reminding herself they had a date in a few hours. A date that would never result in touching, but at least they’d be together for a while. Amya took a breath and clenched her teeth.

“Screw it,” she said, her voice echoing in the empty room.

And that’s it folks! My life is crazy right now. In a few weeks I might have some more info for you about what’s going on and where I might be headed. Right now I’m just trying to get my summer scheduled and keep those necessary in the loop of chaos that has struck!

If you are available and willing, there’s still time to sign up for S.A. Snow’s Cover reveal on June 14. If not, S. A. will be having a book tour coming up if you really want to get your hands in that pot. Linky for cover reveal here!

Thanks to the awesome KL Schwengel for hosting this thing each week.

BDSM in a Lesbian World #authorcorner with Caitlin Ricci and Cari Z

Hi! Thanks for spending a little time today with me, Caitlin Ricci, and my co-author, Cari Z, as we talk about our new novel, Camellia. Today we wanted to talk a little bit about what dominance means to us since Camellia is a lesbian romance with BDSM aspects and we both feel that the idea of someone who is dominant over another person is often confused with other ideas about BDSM as a whole.

Dannybanner(1)

Cari

Let me put this out there: I’m a novice when it comes to writing BDSM. The first thing that comes to my mind when I consider the word “dominance” is forcible submission. Not the sort you might think of when it pertains to BDSM, but the dominance you feel when you’ve manipulated your opponent into a spot where they have to submit, or pay the penalty. The kind of submission you get out of close-contact sports like wrestling and jiu jitsu, that’s the sort of thing I know front to back. Translating that into a BDSM setting, focusing on the purely physical, would have been easy for me.

That’s part of why I didn’t do it. The physical stuff is interesting, and can be integral to the whole, but the heart of the relationship that Caitlin and I wrote between Lucy and Danny in Camellia is a mental game. It’s a chess match, each half surveying the board and making their moves with cautious excitement, not striding onto the mat and fighting it out. Sometimes the best response is physical; other times, Lucy dominates Danny with nothing more than a few words and a gesture. Making myself stretch to write a dominant who asks for submission, who makes her submissive want to give it to her easily, was a delightful challenge. I have the feeling it’s just going to get harder, and better, the deeper I go with this couple.

Lucybanner

Caitlin

I enjoy writing BDSM and Camellia wasn’t the first time I’d tackled the idea of two people falling in love with a bit of kink, but it was the first time I’d attempted to write this kind of story with two women involved. For dominant characters I want them strong but they still need to be human with understandable motives and accessible emotions.

That’s what I think of when I hear the word “dominance” and apply it to a person. Too often people hear BDSM and picture abusive scenes or have no idea at all. With the popularity of these books on the rise it’s important to have healthy relationships available to be read and I’m proud to say that’s what we were able to accomplish here. Lucy is a dominant person and she expects certain things both in her professional life and also in her private one. Danny makes a beautiful submissive because she naturally takes to that role with Lucy and still retains who she is.

The characters never compromise themselves for each other and I think that’s the most important thing about a dominant person- that they can bring something out of the other person in a safe way without them feeling like they’ve lost something of themselves in the process. Dominance and submission don’t have to be scary concepts and they can work as easily in life as they do in a book. All it takes is open communication, trust, and enough knowledge about yourself to know what is safe and comfortable for you.

Cari Bio:

I’ve been publishing erotica for a few years now, writing it for longer and am fortunately back in the US of A now, where I can work on being consistent instead of blaming my laziness on Togo. I’m in my late twenties, married to a very understanding man who came with me to this brave new world, and I love erotica, specifically m/m, but I write more broadly than that. Questions, comments, gentle taps with the “get your ass to work!” stick…my email is carizabeth@hotmail.com. You can find my free stuff at Literotica.com under the name Carizabeth.

Caitlin Bio:

Caitlin was fortunate growing up to be surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged her love of reading. She has always been a voracious reader and that love of the written word easily morphed into a passion for writing. If she isn’t writing, she can usually be found studying as she works toward her counseling degree. She comes from a military family and the men and women of the armed forces are close to her heart. She also enjoys gardening, hiking, and horseback riding in the Colorado Rockies where she calls home with her wonderful fiance and their two dogs. Her belief that there is no one true path to happily ever after runs deeply through all of her stories.

camellia400Danny doesn’t expect much to come from the interview she has lined up through her modelling agency, who told her only that it involved tea and a kink convention. She thinks it won’t be much more than wearing some strange outfit, sitting around, and getting easy money that she desperately needs.

What she gets instead is Lucy, a formidable woman in riding boots and a corset, who makes Danny want to please her without saying a word. By the end of the interview, Danny is convinced that her new job isn’t going to be anywhere near as easy as she first believed. Can Danny make the woman determined to keep her at the end of her riding crop let her into her heart as well as her bed?

For by Grace COVER REVEAL #authorcorner

Today is the cover reveal for my newest novel For by Grace. This is the start of a new series called Spirit of Grace. I can’t believe it’s going to be released in one month. And I can’t believe how hard it was to wait to reveal this cover to everyone. It should be available for pre-order soon.

I hope if you’re a big part of the book world that you see this cover multiple times today!

Cover Full

Being a Sheriff’s Deputy is not all about saving lives and arresting criminals, and each day Grace wonders if she’ll make it home.

While kids at the schools Deputy Grace Halling visits see her as the knight in blue-cotton armor, people involved in the cases she is dispatched to have a different opinion. She has every confidence in her ability to do her job and arrest criminals. She easily takes down a knife-wielding woman and a drunken combatant teenager without hesitation. Everyone—victim, suspect, or witness—has a story to tell or to lie about, and Grace is never perturbed by their tales.

That all changes when she looks down the barrel of a gun. She loses confidence in her ability as a deputy, she loses trust in herself and fellow officers, and she struggles to stay afloat as shift after shift passes. Grace cannot find her rhythm of being a deputy again. And when the Police Chaplain unexpectedly barges into her life, her personal and professional lives are flipped upside down. Grace struggles to find her even ground, worrying that the next time she stares a murderer in the face will be the last.

There is a rafflecopter giveaway for this reveal too!

Fallen from Editing…=P WIPpet Wednesday! April 30, 2014

I have finished edits. I’m officially done with editing my own stuff for at least a month. Ashes Fall has been sent to the publisher, and I’m awaiting more edits back from her. I have taken on a new project, editing for a debut author. I’ll let you all know how that goes, but the prologue and first chapter were quite interesting so far.

Life has been crazy and amazing this week.

1. Sunday I emailed Ashes Fall to the publisher after FINALLY finishing my edits (she’ll get mad at me for using the word finally if she reads this, watch).

2. Thursday I started my new job working with low income kids in a free after school program.

3. Monday I wrote a 15 page paper, did the research that morning too, on the myth of redemptive suffering (that suffering is good, brings us closer to God and thus God gives us suffering) and sexual violence. Intense but awesome paper. I turned it in.

4. With the turning in of that paper, I’m done with my graduate school program! So graduation is set for May 9th, and I’m officially on the lookout for a real full-time job!

This is why I have had no time.

But now I do have time! Since my life is calming down, I finally get to write again. It’s been so long! (Since November, actually.) I have two novels that are in progress right now. The sequel to For by Grace (TBR June 1) which is titled Fallen from Grace. And a new series called Quarter Life. The first novel is titled Bound. This is Emma’s story if you remember it.

I’ve chosen to finish Fallen from Grace first, since 1. it’s a little bit more than halfway done, and 2. I actually have a publisher for it. I’m in the debate right now as to whether or not to submit Quarter Life: Unbound to a new publisher or not. If you have an opinion on this, please feel free to weigh in. I already know why I would be doing it, if I did it.

There’s still time to sign up for the cover reveal of Across Worlds: Collision on June 14th (Saturday). The more people the better to get this debut novel out there for more eyes to see. Follow this little linky here to see the blurb and possibly sign up. You just need any type of platform for it: Facebook, twitter, tumblr, google+, blog etc.

Tomorrow the cover reveal happens for For by Grace…I’m trying very, very hard NOT to post it before then. I find that as each day passes, the more I want to post it before the scheduled date. Go figure because that makes no sense in my head.

I think I’m done rambling for now.

As for WIPpet…I’m going back to Fallen from Grace. I’m at about 50k words for a 90k word novel. This is a COPS style crime/mystery.

Today you get 7 short paragraphs from Fallen from Grace, title called Gathering the Disciples. This involves one of my favorite characters I have EVER written. The last part of this excerpt is for Amy–she’ll know why. Peter has been on a ride along with Grace the entire night; he’s a 19 year old recovery alcoholic who just started back to school. Grace is the one who had a major impact on him going into recovery. They have a very complicated relationship. Peter and Grace are just finishing up the ride along, talking about Grace when she was younger.

My math, you ask? 14 (for the year) / 2 (for the year) = 7

“You know,” she started. “When I went on my first ride along, we got shot at.”

“Really?”

“Yup. Daniel Mason Brady, one of the best and kindest people I have ever known, took me on my first ride along. I was nineteen.” She smiled at Peter, remembering his age was the same. “We went to a car chase call that had ended by the time we’d gotten there. But the asshole had holed himself up in someone’s house. He’d just walked right in their front door.”

“Oh my God.”

“Yeah. No kidding. Freaked them out, I’m sure. Anyway, he walked into their house, threatened them with a gun and then killed the dad. He then barricaded himself. While he was in there, he shot out the living room window and managed to hit the windshield of the car Daniel and I were sitting in. The bullets didn’t come through the glass, but it scared the crap out of me.”

“Literally?”

“No,” she said and chuckled. “Not literally, but it was really close.”

If you would like to join in WIPpet Wednesday’s it’s open to all. Create a post with you current WIP (work in progress) that somehow correlates to the date. Feel free to get VERY crazy with your math. Then link it up with the rest of us crazies and go on and read!

Lesbian Erotica #authorcorner with Terry Birchwood

Lesbian Erotica

No matter how refrained from sex we wish to be, most of our bodies ache for stimulation at some point in time. Many of us are sexually aroused through all of our senses, triggered by a well of emotions. Whether the spark is between people of the same gender or opposite, it can lead to amazing encounters.

While the primary goal of my books is to explore what people are willing to do for love and hate, sexual scenes take a prominent seat throughout the book series. As intently as I explore sex, I also delve into professions, relationships, hopes, fears and many other elements that comprise our beings. The stories are lesbian erotic thrillers where the lead characters are lesbians; and we follow their lives filled with families, friends, lovers, and coworkers. Lives tear apart and some mend while love, lust, and betrayal take center stage. Through soft and hardcore sexual content, I explore heterosexual and homosexual acts to capture real life situations. Most straight people know at least one gay person, and most gay people know many straight persons so why not mix their tales in a book? I could not think of a reason to avoid the challenge. Guess what? Many have sex.

In my books, I heavily incorporate lesbianism and eroticism due to the controversy surrounding the topics. I believe we need to free ourselves of the discontent people associate to attractions and acts that are not of their belief, especially when no one is being hurt and the participators are willful. If you want spinach, and I don’t want any, I am not going to bash your head in or cuss you – I will simply avoid purchasing spinach. If you like to engage in soccer and I don’t like it, I will not try to enact a law to ban soccer. I think you all get the point. We need to stop the nonsense of trying to run the world around one system of preferences. I can’t imagine we were all put here to follow one of us.

In closing, why lesbian erotica? There’s a saying about writing about what you know – I am a lesbian who loves sex and mystery. “I wanted so badly to throw caution to the wind, go to her home, knock on the door, walk in, and begin a delicious tasting of each other, no words uttered. However, sense and sensibility had to stay in control.” Enjoy the books. Terry Birchwood

Ghostwriter

This is a tale that explores what people are willing to do for love and hate. The main characters, Tabby and Star, thought they would be together forever. Time told a different story. One has moved on and married; the other refuses to let another person spend the night in her bed even after fervent lovemaking. Even though apart for years, they cannot erase the memory tattoos of one another. Surrounded by friends and family, each woman faces the consequences of the choices that she has made.

Tipping Over

In this second installment, your favorite lesbians, Star and Tabby, continue to share their lives with you. A crime has been committed and the circle is seeking an assailant while defending one of their members from wrongful punishment. Who is dead and why? Most importantly, what does this have to do with our favorite couple, if anything? Will Tabby and Star realize that they belong together or apart? Will their decisions drive their choices or outside forces determine their relationship? As they challenge their feelings by taking on new mates, will any of the relationships survive?
