Excitement of Creation #ROW80 and #WIPpetWednesday

Good morning! As I mentioned when I first posted these goals that they were the goals through April at least. It looks like they’re going to last until about halfway through May too, so I’ll keep them up until they need to change.

1. Write 3k words a day on Lost & Forsaken until finished.

Sunday: 0
Monday: 4024
Tuesday: 3057

This gives me a total of 43,612, meaning I have only about 6.5k more to write to finish out Camp NaNo! The Camp NaNo site says I only need about 2100 words to finish on time. I disagree with it since there are only two days left, but I do believe I shall accomplish Camp. I had to split a chapter recently and that made me fall a bit behind. But it feels SO GOOD to be over halfway done with this novel

2. Edit 2 chapters a day on Her Run for Rachael

3. Edit 2 chapters a day on shorts for Kaden

Goal was to yesterday do two and today do four, but that didn’t happen. Perhaps today I will get some of this done. I need to stop procrastinating on it for sure.

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound: Book One of Quarter Life which is my own thing that’s supposed to be coming out in Oct.

Pfffft….I’m getting so behind in this it’s not even funny. But it doesn’t really matter because, well, I have so much time for it! I did, however, get my cover done. Thanks to the awesome Stacy for doing it for me!

Unbound COVER2

Also!! In other awesome and amazing news!!! My publisher put up Memoir in the Making a few days early on the publishers site. I’m so excited for this piece to finally be out. Probably because I love it and because it’s been so long since I’ve had a book release. I’ve forgotten what it tastes like! I’m hoping for great things for Memoir in the Making. It’s my fifth book to be released, but it’s a new to be genre, meaning I’m not sure if it will. Here’s to hoping. *fingers crossed*

Memoir04sample

Now onto WIPpet! I debated whether or not to post a WIPpet today. I reveal my huge secret about said novel on the FB page tomorrow, meaning I can share it everywhere tomorrow afternoon. But it’s not tomorrow yet. So what to do? I haven’t really worked on anything but the novel since I’m trying to catch up with Camp NaNo. I did submit some shorts to Chicken Soup for the Soul, but those are personal, so I’d rather not share them, so it leaves me in a bit of a pickle. What to share with you all today!

What you get is ten lines from the short story I was working on before that I still haven’t finished because I’m unsure if I like it or not. In response to the posts last week…Cheska (the POV character) and Kapri are on a science research vessel for a hellishly long time to research geomagnetic storms. They had finally found one after sixty days of searching, sort of. They were in the afterwaves of the storm and not the storm proper. This following scene happens after that.

For those of you new to this, WIPpet Wednesday is where we all post excerpts from our works in progress. There’s only two hard fast rules. One link your WIPpet to the rest right here. And two, your excerpt has to related to the date in some form or fashion, so get creative with the math.

Like I said, ten sentences for April 29th, 2015. Taking the 4 + the 5 + the 1 = 10

“You’ve done this before, though.”

“Not like this.”

I shook my head. “Not like what?”

Kapri groaned and pushed up from my cot, walking away. My stomach dropped and I followed her, dropping my bowl to the metal floor. I trailed closely behind her and stopped when she grabbed her own back of gunk to mix with water.

“Not like what?” I repeated.

“Drop it,” Kapri said, her voice low and threatening.

“No. I’m sorry, but it’s been sixty days of hell in here with you. You don’t talk, you don’t do anything except work, you barely even look at me. I get that you’re passionate, but everyone needs a break now and then.”

“Cheska—stop.”

“No, I won’t stop.” Desperation flooded my tone, my eyes watered and my voice cracked. “What’s different this time around? What’s so fucking different!?”

“You!”

One month and ten days #WIPpetWednesday

Hey all! It’s been awhile since I’ve joined up. Basically a month. And boy did I need it. I haven’t posted on my blog in a month at all, and I needed the break. I was posting almost every single day for something, and trust me, while it’s fun, it’s hard to keep up with that. I’m planning on slowly easing back into it. But for now, I have quite a few announcements to make. A lot can happen in a month.

I had a short story accepted into an anthology. A Blizzard’s Blow, featuring Lollie and Andrea, will be included in the Young Love, Old Hearts anthology put on by Supposed Crimes, LLC. I’m really excited. I absolutely love this short story. A. M. Leibowitz, fellow WIPpeteer and friend, also had a short story accepted into the anthology! w00t! So if you want a review copy, let me know. It releases May 1.

I got my cover in for Memoir in the Making earlier this week. Eeeek! so I shall share it with you all. This one also releases May 1.

Memoir04sampleMemoir in the Making is my first romance novel, like pure romance, no weird creatures or random dying (okay only maybe a little random dying). I’m nervous and excited about it coming out. So, if you want a review copy of it, let me know.

Here’s the blurb:

Forbidden love is often the most attractive.

The first day of her junior year in college was supposed to go off without a hitch. But when Ainsley Jacobs sat in her memoir class with a professor she’d never had before, her life took an unexpected turn. She couldn’t get her well-dressed professor, Meredith Frenz, out of her head.

Meredith had lived a lonely yet comfortable life for the past fifteen years, and despite flings here and there, she had no desire to jump head first into a relationship, especially one with her student. Despite all her thwarted efforts, Meredith was determined to keep to herself and push Ainsley away.

Anyway…I also have a release on June 1, of Fallen from Grace (Spirit of Grace #2) because YAY! MORE GRACE! Grace through Redemption is currently with beta’s, meaning it’ll hopefully be out late this year or early next year.

I’m writing up short stories to go along with For by Grace. 5 in each bundle and 3 bundles. It’s an interesting experiment for me. I never thought I was very good at short stories and this is kind of proving that. Anyway. I have the first ones already out, the second ones are due on March 22 (and I haven’t even started yet, fast forward to today’s WIPpet), and the third bundle are due the first of May. I might be a bit insane by the time June is over.

I also just got edits back for Quarter Life: Unbound. My vampirey one? Yeah. I’m excited. I have a lot of revising to do, but it gets to see the like of day in October. Faye needs it. lol.

This leads me to WIPpet Wednesday. WIPpet Wednesday is where a bunch of us authorly types gets together, post something from our WIP (Work In Progress) for the rest of the world to see and then we cross pollinate and comment on everything. Each WIPpet has something to do with the date. Although, there is one exception to this rule. If you started something. Which I did, just a few minutes ago.

So you get the first 4 paragraphs of an Amya short story titled “Consult” which is in the second bundle of Amya’s Take-Out called Dignity Lost. P.S. I am never forcing myself to name this many things in one series again. Chapter numbers are fine from here on out.

Amya sat in her office and twiddled her thumbs. It had been an unending line of officers through her door for the past week and the silence was strong, chaotic and exactly what she needed. She lifted her hand and rubbed at the tension in the center of her chest, willing it to go away. Even Reyes being shot hadn’t been this bad. Davidson—that was a completely different story.

It may have easily been her hardest week at work ever, and not because of the topic at hand, but because of the time it took her to do it. It was as if the week suddenly spouted a whole extra hundred hours and she didn’t know where to put them or what to do with them. Sighing and rubbing her eyes, Amya listened to the happenings of her office.

Her secretary was out in the center office working on something. The click, click, click of her ridiculously long acrylic nails against the keyboard were enough to make Amya want to shut the door. Drawing in a deep breath, holding it in her chest, and letting it out slowly, Amya centered herself. She needed to be focused on God, on the next officer who walked through her door and the next moment when she had to once again hear how Davidson’s brains were blasted all over the ceiling of his cruiser.

She shook the image from her mind’s eye and swallowed hard. She’d seen it. Many of the other officers hadn’t. It was just a story passed along like the game telephone and each time someone new told it the story was more garbled, bloodier and worse than before. Amya knew they’d all be affected, but this obsession with the details of Davidson’s death were too much for her to bear.

And there you have it folks. If you’d like to join in WIPpet Wednesday, feel free. We’re open to all! Just make your post and head on over here to link it up to the rest of them.

Prologue
I could tell you everyone gets their own form of
happily ever after in the end, but let’s face it, that’s a HUGE lie. Not
everyone gets one or they get a part of one only to have it ripped away from
them in the end. Leaving them more broken than they ever believed they could be
in their lives.
I thought I had it all: the fame, the happiness, and
most importantly, the love.
What
a load of bullshit!
I definitely didn’t have love. She wanted me for
nothing more than my fame and money in the end. So after nine years together-four
of those years spent married-we ended up getting the big D. Thankfully, there
were no children in the mix, otherwise I would have to deal with the royal
bitch for the rest of my life.
But this isn’t mine and the royal bitch’s story. Nope,
this is Ella’s and my story; the story of how we came to be. True, we had more
going in the end than we realized at the time, but I wouldn’t change one thing
about our time together.
Not
one thing
.

Summary:

Kayla Brooke has firefighting in her blood. She followed her father’s footsteps into the Crystal Glen Fire Department, but when she shows an interest in the whys, she moves into her uncle’s path; fire investigation. Fighting the flames has cost her: a man she thought she’d loved and friends taken by the flames that call to her. After her fiance walked out on her because he could handle what she was, she never expected another man to light a different kind of fire in her blood. Until Adrian Riley ran into her life.

Adrian Riley came from a family of cops, but he decided to start over in a town where no one knows his family. Now, on the fast track to promotion, he thinks this new case could be the key to proving himself. Then, he butts heads with a hotheaded firefighter on the scene, and his whole world turns upside down. She could be the key to everything, or the one weakness that could take him down.

They fight the sparks that threaten to burn them both. But, once they light, there’s no stopping the blaze. Kayla’s been burned before, but this time the flames may consume her. When more fires start, they know it’s more than a simple case. But, when the arsonist seems to have turned his attention to Kayla, Adrian will do everything within his power to keep her safe, even stand between her and the fire.

Excerpt 1:

When she stepped outside, though, the cop was still there. She couldn’t see his face as he leaned over the railing of the porch, but she still recognized him. The lines of his back were as strong as his front even with his coat on. Maybe it was a good thing that he reminded her of a fighter. He’d fight for this family, for Josh, if it did turn out to be arson.

Something about his posture now was different than when he’d been inside. The bowed back, his head hanging down. He couldn’t have been hurt in the time it took to walk out here, but she knew not all pain was physical. She was sure of it when a shudder passed over his body. What was wrong with him? She hadn’t gotten the impression he had known Josh. He hadn’t seemed affected inside.

She took a step toward him but backed away again when he spun toward her. His hand reached toward his side, where he was probably used to wearing a shoulder holster. He wouldn’t carry a gun to a funeral home though, would he? His jacket lifted, revealing the badge on his belt.

She held her hands up and worked up a smile. “I come in peace.”

He relaxed a bit, but something still held him rigid. The pain was evident in those hard blue eyes. “You’re one of Josh Nunley’s colleagues.”

His voice put her on edge. Her own back stiffened. “One of his sisters, so to speak. What are you doing here? Aren’t we allowed peace to grieve our brother’s loss?”

“I wasn’t trying to get in the way,” he said. “In fact, I tried to be as unobtrusive as possible. I’ve lost colleagues in the line of duty before. I understand. But I still have a job to do. I would think you’d want me to find who is responsible for your friend’s death.”

Excerpt 2:

Yet he found he wanted to take care of her. Not like she would allow it. Still, he reached out and brushed a lock of hair behind her ear. She looked shocked by the gesture. “How much sleep have you gotten?” he asked.

She stepped back from him, bringing her own fingers to touch the lock of hair. “It doesn’t matter,” she said. “I can still do the job.”

“I never said you couldn’t.” He shoved his hands in his pockets. “Look, I don’t really know what your problem is with me. The only thing I’ve tried to do so far is my job. Are you really going to hold that against me?”

“Your job sucks, then. Coming to question us when we’re grieving for our friend. Crashing his funeral. We should be able to have those moments.”

“I didn’t question any of you. I was only there observing. Watching for some suspicious behavior. Anything that might give me a clue to who did this.”

“You think that’s so much better? What, do you think one of us did it?”

He kept silent at that accusation, not quite sure what to say to her. She apparently took it as confirmation. “You do, damn it.” She held her hands out in front of her. “Well, why don’t you arrest me now, Detective, if you think I’m guilty.”

“I never said you were guilty, or that I even thought that.” His voice was low, the calmness not matching the turmoil he felt. No, the anger boiled in his veins.

Author Bio:

Fallon Brown was born and raised in a tiny town in the northwestern corner of Pennsylvania. At one time, she dreamed of having a cabin in the woods or mountains where she could be left alone to write. Instead she spent three years studying psychology before realizing that wasn’t for her. She now lives outside of a slightly larger small town in the same corner of her home state with her husband, two children, dog, and cat.

She spends her days interfering in the lives of fictional characters while trying to keep a semblance of a clean house. Often the clean house bit fails. She published her first novel, Duty to Protect, in April of 2014, and with all the characters crowding in her head, there is more to come.

Cover Reveal for Island of Glass by Ruth Nestvold

Island of Glass
Ruth Nestvold

Publication date: October 28, 2014

Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Chiara Dragoni is a master glassmaker of Venice, a position that is both a privilege — and a trap. For the glassmakers of Murano are forbidden to ever leave the islands of the Venetian lagoon.
When Chiara’s uncle is caught on the mainland and thrown into the dungeon of the Doge’s Palace, she must use all her talents, including magic, to help free him. But the gift she creates for the ruling prince of Venice has unintended consequences, and now Chiara must decide whether to give up everything — and everyone — she knows and loves in order to save her dream.

Set in an alternate historical Venice with alchemists, witches and magic, the story uses familiar motifs from the beloved fairy tale “Cinderella” to tell a tale with a very different message.
Island of Glass is a Young Adult fantasy novella of approximately 25,000 words, or 100 pages. It is the first book in The Glassmakers Trilogy.

Now available for pre-order for an introductory price of only 99c!

Excerpt:

The prince chuckled, placing the second slipper next to its mate on the gilded side table. “Most young women scheme for the opportunity to be alone with a prince of La Serenissima. Yet here you are, offered the chance, and you turn it down.”
Chiara didn’t know what to say. She could only hope that beneath his smiles and chuckles he wasn’t offended. Her plan to gain the prince’s favor was backfiring badly.

“Talented, beautiful, and unusual,” the prince continued. “And quite rich as well, I presume?”

She could tell from the heat of her cheeks that they must be flaming by now. She nodded mutely.

He raised one expertly plucked, aristocratic eyebrow. “And you want me to free your uncle.”

She almost heaved a sigh of relief at his change of subject. She hoped that was the end of his attempts to flirt with her; flirtation was not one of Chiara’s strong points. “The Fenice Glassworks cannot be run properly without Gianfranco Dragoni,” she said. “Surely the Council of Ten cannot wish for such a situation. The taxes we pay are an important source of revenue for Venice, after all.”

He didn’t answer, staring instead at the matching glass slippers. “I wonder if they would fit me. They look to be my size.” He glanced at her again with a suggestive smile. “As if you knew me intimately, my dear.”

Oh, no, she hoped he didn’t intend to actually try the slippers on! They were decorative, not meant to be worn. If they broke and cut his princely foot, he would probably throw her into the prison of the Doge’s palace right alongside Uncle Gian.

He sank into the nearest lavishly upholstered chair and snapped his fingers. “Remove my shoes,” he said to the servant who appeared at his side.

Chiara watched the proceedings, trying to remain composed, given her panic at what would most likely happen next.

While Dani works to take him down and save her school, Phin wrestles with learning how to do the right thing, including telling the truth to the man with whom he’s already falling in love.

Lower Education Cover

Excerpt 1:

Alex spun around and threw his hands in the air. “Why are you still here? Go find someone else to bother.”

“What if I think the information you have is more valuable?” Phin crossed his arms and tilted his head, jutting out his chin.

“And what if I think you’re wasting your time? I have nothing here that would be of interest to you.”

The corner of Phin’s mouth curled upward. “I would say you’re mistaken. There’s plenty here for me to take interest in.” His gaze traveled downward slowly, making Alex feel exposed. Heat spread across his face, followed by a surge of anger. Placing his hands on the table and leaning toward Phin, Alex replied, “I don’t know what kind of game you’re playing, but it won’t work on me. Is this how you’ve handled your other clients?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Yes, you do.”

“All right, you got me.” Phin chuckled softly. He moved in closer and lowered his voice. “I once signed an entire multi-year textbook contract on my appeal alone.” His smile faltered, and he looked away briefly. He snapped his attention back to Alex and narrowed his eyes. “You’re not the most difficult client I’ve ever worked with, though it’s close.”

“I’m not your client. There’s no reason for your behavior.”

Phin licked his lips. “I didn’t make a mistake in the bar the other night.”

Rainbow Con 2014

Hello one and hello all!

I do realize that normally I’m supposed to be posting a WIPpet, as it is Wednesday. However, I’m not going to do that this week because I’m traveling to Tampa, FL for the first annual Rainbow Conference. I’ll be attending as an author, so that also means, this is my first ever conference as an author.

I have to skip out a day early to be back for Easter, but I still expect this trip to be amazing and awesome. I have books for purchase and bookmarks to give away. I hope to see lots of new faces and get to know some old friends even better. I’ll be attending with WIPpeteer Sarah Hart and Carolyn Gray.

As I write lesbian fiction, I’m thrilled that I’m on at least one lesbian panel–the only one they have dedicated to f/f. I hope to suggest they do more of that in the future, btw.

Here’s my schedule of events for anyone there who wants to catch up with me.

Thursday — Author Q&A 4:45-5:15 in Salon B
Thursday — Sex Toys in Erotic Fiction 10pm Salon C

Friday — Author Reading 2:45 Salon C
Friday — Anatomical, Please! 4pm Salon A

Saturday — We <3 Pussy 2pm Salon C

I hope to see lots of people there and come back with some good information about publishing and marketing and basically just making friends in the writing business!

If you’re curious as to what else I’m up to, I’m looking for people to join in two cover reveals. The first is on May 1 for my lesbian crime fiction novel For by Grace. If you have the date open and would like to join in, you can sign up right over here. The second cover reveal is for S. A. Snow’s debut novel Across Worlds: Collision! It will be on June 14. The book is sci-fi erotica with mixed gender thrown in there. If you would like to sign up to help out a new author, you can do that right here!

Thank you all so much and talk to you soon!

WIPpet Wednesday!! September 4, 2013

Good morning and welcome to the land of the living. I absolutely almost forgot that today was Wednesday. *hides* but I remembered!! In time, of course. It’s been a crazy week, but this morning I was filled with reading about Zombis in Haiti (they’re real there), and witches who are high on drugs and use broomsticks to transfer the drug to their bodies (that’s all I’m saying because the rest is inappropriate). Yes, I was actually reading this for class.

Nothing crazy like that in this story…yet. Even though there are witches. Hmmm…now I have ideas running around in my head.

Well here you go!

Since today is the 4th, you get 4 lines from Chapter 10 of the story that still has no name. Joel is talking to Emma in this…so have fun!!

“Why are you here, Caroline?”

She cringed inwardly at the name and chewed on the inside of her lip.

“I’m not sure what you mean.”

“Why are you at the house? Why did you come find us?”

If you would like to join in WIPpet, all you have to do is write up a blog post with some of your current WIP (Work In Progress) that correlates somehow to the date. Feel free to get crazy with the maths. Then you link it up here and read everyone elses work. It’s fantastic!!

Also…in case you missed it. I did an interview with a cover reveal last week. If you want to read the interview, you can go here. This, by the way, has been my favorite interview to do so far.

If you just want the cover reveal and to tell me how fantastic it is, look down.

Dying Embers is the second in the James Matthews Trilogy, but is a prequel to Forever Burn. In this novel, we learn more about Addison Lee. This book will be released THIS DECEMBER!!

definal3d-300x300

She thought she was on a new path, but life keeps tugging Addison Lee back to her past and her gift.

Addison struggles to make a new life in Norwich, one where she can be the Battalion Chief of Fire Station Seven and live life as she sees fit. She wants a life without the complications of an ex-fiancé and a job that put her life on the line for little more than a gift she was born with. Learning the ropes of a new job can always be tough, and being a Battalion Chief means she has a great responsibility to her crew and to the city. Nervous about her first day already, Addison realizes that adding in a one-night stand with a future employee has left her on rocky ground.

Plagued by visions of a dying woman, Addison continues to cope with difficulties at her new job. She has no idea who the dying woman is, where she is, or even, when she is—and no means to find out. Addison is distracted from the dying woman and her new job when called to Wyoming on an emergency, where she discovers it’s not as easy to leave her past behind as she hoped.
