The Seventh Commandment — WIPpet Wednesday in style

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about this novel series, it’s that people really like Peter. Peter is a bit troubled, but he has a great sense of innocence about him! He’s seen a lot in his short life, but he’s a character.

The chapter I’ve been working on has Peter in it. And I can’t tell you how many readers have told me they love Peter. So Peter’s gotta keep on showing up!

Here’s 8 paragraphs from chapter 14 of Fallen from Grace! That’s my easy WIPpet math for today.

“‘A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” … The Samaritan woman therefore said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have give you living water.”’ This is my favorite part,” Peter added.

“Uh huh,” Grace reverted back to her earlier statements.

“He’s talking about the water of life, the wellspring of life that comes with faith and believing. It’s such an amazing gift to have.”

Grace muttered, “I’m sure.”

Peter bounced in his seat as he continued. Grace ignored him as much as possible and pushed her foot down on the gas peddle to get to the school faster.

“God gives us the living water, and that’s how we keep going when it gets rough. We always know God is there for us, healing us, saving us, comforting us. It’s just perfect isn’t it? A water that never dies and will never dry up and make us thirsty.”

Grace sighed. “It’s great for those who believe in it, Peter.”

She bit her tongue when the tension in the car clustered together and made it hard to breathe. She hadn’t meant to be so short with him, but her patience had been worn thin over the past month. Licking her lips and slipping him a glance, Grace went to apologize.

Onto a ROW80 update!

1. Fallen from Grace: write 1 chapter a week (moving week excluded) — I wrote chapter 13 this week, and I’m working on chapter 14. I hope to have this novel finished being written by the end of the day on Friday. My lovely betas are on chapter 11! So I have to finish it otherwise they’ll be waiting impatiently!
2. Promo: Answer three interview questions a day until done
3. Promo: Write out a guest post a week until done
4. Lovely, Dark, and Deep short story needs to be written/plotted 2k a day due Aug 31st — still haven’t started working on this one at all. Once Grace is done, then I’ll do it!

5. Paranormal Romance short story 2k/day due Aug 9th — I’ve unfortunately given up on this. It’s August 6th and the piece still only has 2,000 words in it. It will not be finished in time for submission.

#ROW80 update and progress on goals

This has been a crazy hard month for us, started really end of January, and it's looking to continue to be another rough month. My spouse was fired, we're switching kids' daycare because of abuse issues, I've been sick with some cold, stomach bug through the house,...

Open when you get fired… #loveletters #openwhen

Oh love, My heart breaks for you. This isn't what you wanted or what I wanted. And it is completely out of our hands. Let me hold you, love. Let me hold you while you cry, while you curse, while you run worries around your head so much that you don't know where to...

I feel for Grace. Hopefully she manages to get her apology out before they reach school. It’s hard to be faced with such exuberant, whole-hearted belief when yours is either not as strong or non-existent.

    • Adrian

It is. And she gets it out. =P

  2. Elaine Jeremiah

I can see both sides of this. Peter is rather preachy but I agree with pretty much everything he’s saying! Then again there is a time and a place for everything and from what I can gather from this scene, from Grace’s point of view this isn’t the time or place!! 🙂

    • Adrian

Lol he’s just being himself and she’s being cranky =P

      • Elaine Jeremiah

Well having read previous excerpts and seeing what Grace has to go through, I’m not surprised!

        • Adrian

Lol well peter is a kid she mentors so a bit different but she really thinks he just needs to hang out with Amya all the time and not her.

          • Elaine Jeremiah

Oh I see. Isn’t Amya the one she likes or have I got that completely wrong??!!

          • Adrian

Amya is the one she likes! You’ve not gone bonkers. Promises!!

          • Elaine Jeremiah

Oh phew! *wipes forehead* I sometimes find it really hard to remember all the characters from various WIPpeteer’s half-way finished WIPs! 🙂

          • Adrian

So true!!! And mine change all the time!!

          • Elaine Jeremiah

Lol. And we writers wouldn’t want it any other way! 🙂

          • Adrian

Of course not! It keeps me entertained!

          • Elaine Jeremiah

😀 Have a great evening. ‘See’ you Friday for the cover reveal! 🙂

          • Adrian

            It’s already scheduled! Can’t wait!!

  3. Sirena

Anymore the WIPpet posts are all I see of Grace. *taps foot and pouts*. I miss her…

    • Adrian

      Huh??

  4. Xina Marie Uhl

Great WIPpet here. You’ve really conveyed Grace’s annoyance without just saying “Grace is annoyed.” You’ve shown it with her actions/words and not told us. Something I’m forever working on!

Congrats on the book! Great cover!

    • Adrian

Thanks and thanks!!! I’m glad it’s not telling. Makes reading more interesting.

  5. Amy

Well, Peter is nothing if not enthusiastic. LOL! You summed up nicely why I like him—he’s had it rough, but he still has this weird little innocence to him. It’s like he’s a kid who’s spent too much time trying to be a lot older than his age so missed out on actually being a kid.

    • Adrian

Exactly!!! He did miss out on it. And he’s just so passionate about anything biblical

  6. shanjeniah

I love the clustered tension making it hard for Grace to breathe. And Peter, who seems a little like a river of water, himself, with his passion and his revelation. I’m thinking that Grace could maybe take something of value from what he’s saying, if she weren’t so stressed out that she really can’t listen or think about it more deeply.

I hadn’t met Peter yet, but I’m glad I have, now. He seems very sweet, and like he would be good for Grace to spend some time with, whether she knows it or not.

    • Adrian

I agree with that assessment. Also why she keeps getting stuck with him =P

  7. Ruth Nestvold

Great cross-purposes here — I think I would just as irritated as Grace! 🙂

    • Adrian

Lol I would probably be peter and be irritating someone!!

  8. Emily Witt

Aww, Peter seems very sweet. But I can understand Grace’s frustrations if she’s got other things on her mind and he’s religion.

    • Emily Witt

Dammit, that is not what I wanted to say. There was supposed to be a “going on about” between “he’s” and “religion”!

      • Adrian

        Lol he is very sweet

  9. Elizabeth Anne Mitchell

I could completely relate to Grace, trying to drive and get this kid to school while he’s going on about something. Been there, have the t-shirt. I agree with Shan–you seem to be setting her up to learn from him (like I did from the kids I was ferrying to school.

    • Adrian

She learns from him all the time. She just doesn’t like that she’s learning. =P

  10. Jenna Wood

As everyone else says, Peter does sound very sweet and almost in his own world. Or maybe he is just young? It seems like Grace is a good person with a lot on her plate.

    • Adrian

That’s a very good assessment of both of them. =P
